One of those classic Bomber Wells stories.
He was bowling to Worcestershire's Roly Jenkins and was in a quest to complete one full over while the cathedral clock was striking twelve.
" What do you think you are doing?, asked Bomber's captain, Sir Derrick Bailey.
" Not a lot.", a typical Bomber reply.
"You're making this game look stupid."
" I'm not. That's what I normally do."
"I want you to go back ten yards. Come in from further back."
Bomber went back ten yards and delivered it from there. There was a roll of laughter all over the ground. Sir Derrick went berserk. Afterwards, he dropped Bomber for a couple of matches.
