Shepherd's tales
|
|
David Shephered, before becoming a great umpire, was a decent enough first-class cricketer for Gloucestershire.
Zaheeer Abbas was a stalwart for them during the years of Shep.
Once, in 1976, they were batting together in a limited overs match.
Zaheer looked in impreious touch and Shep too was batting well.
The only problem was that Zaheer was calling him for too many singles to his liking. At one point, he collapsed and was taken off the field.
At the physio's chair, he was examined and the verdict was given: "He'll live!"
Zaheer continued in his merry way to score a match winning hundred.
