Don't spoil the game

Charlie Parker, the old Gloucestershire left-arm spinner, took over 3000 FC wickets but played only one Test match. He got in a terrible tussle with the powerful men in English cricket and hence didn't get the chances he deserved but that story is for another day.
During the early part of his career, in the pre World War I days, one fine morning he found himself bowling to Ranjitsinhji. The famous Indian batsman repeatedly leg-glanced him and the exasperated bowler ran to his captain, "Excuse me, sir, do you think you could move second slip to the leg side, to stop that shot?"
The captain looked at him with contempt and said, "Good God, man, are you trying to spoil the game?"
