Dare field to me at that position
|
|
Percy Holmes was one of the great Yorkshire batsmen who was unlucky to have got very limited opportunities at the Test level. But for his beloved Yorkshire, he was a giant of the game. At his best he was a powerful and delightful strokemaker.
Once the Glamorgan captain Maurice Turnbull took up position at slilly mid-on to Holmes.
"Now then, Mr. Turnbull," Holmes said " Do you dare field to me- Percy Holmes- in that position?"
A few minutes afterwards when Turnbull was hopping off the field, he turned back to Holmes and said, "You were right, Percy. You were right."
