'Help', cries out the batsman

Bryan 'Bomber' Wells was one of the greatest characters to have played First-class cricket.

In 1964, he was the number eleven batsman in the Nottinghamshire batting line-up against the touring Australians.

He came in with the scorecard reading 98/9.

He saw the fearsome and well-built fast bowler Graham McKenzie at the top of his mark, ready to bowl.

He stood there with one eye on McKenzie and the other on the umpire.

Seeing the hesitancy in the batsman, the umpire called out, "What do you want?"

"Help!", was Bomber's reply.
