The top five in which Bradman did not get a place

In 2000, Wisden's panel of 100 yielded 100 votes for Bradman. He was the 'Cricketer of the Century'.

Wisden editor Matthew Engel wrote "I did wonder if someone somewhere might be contrarian. But no one dared."

A few months later, former Gloucestershire cricketer Bomber Wells was asked to choose five batsmen from the previous 100 years.

He initially narrowed it down to six and, after a lot of thinking, brought it down to five.

Bradman was the one to miss out.

He chose Wally Hammond, Sunil Gavaskar, Greg Chappell and Sachin Tendulkar as his top four. He had Bradman and Sobers fight for the fifth spot with Sobers winning it!

What a pity Engel didn't ask him!
