The man who saved Wisden
|
|
Manchester, 1960.
At the Co-Operative Wholesale Society headquarters.
A meeting of the Non-Food Sub-Committee.
Ken Medlock, newly elected board memeber, was attending for the first time.
In the first batch of papers, someway down the agenda, was a recommendation to liquidate one of the subsidiary companies, John Wisden & Company Limited.
Medlock was a dedicated club cricketer. It did get his attention.
"You must be out of your tiny minds. You're liquidating the best known name in the game of cricket!", he shouted out.
People around the table had very little idea.
But Medlock was able to save Wisden that day.
The 154th edition is out now....
