The Barnes factor

In 1972 E.W. Swanton wrote 'Sort of a Cricket Person'.
It did well.
Swanton thought of writing 'Follow On' even before publishing this one but he wanted it to come out at least after a decade's time.

But then, a letter in 'The Cricketer' changed everything.
Someone pointed out that he had not written a line on Sydney Barnes in 'Sort of a Cricket Person'.
In his view, Barnes, an all-time great, surely deserved a mention.

Swanton accepted his mistake but also pointed out that he had not seen Barnes play.
He added that he had interacted with him many times and agreed that he should have written on him.
He started to work on 'Follow On' rather quickly. It was published in 1977.
