Smith and Gavaskar

Steve Smith, in the recently concluded Ashes series, scored 774 runs.
In 1971, Sunil Gavaskar, in his debut series, scored exactly that many runs.
Both missed a Test match!
One can say that the bowling against which Gavaskar made those runs was a bit inferior in comparison but it must be acknowledged that it was his debut series!
