Grabbing the manager's lapels and all that

Jim Hubble was a 24-year left arm fast bowler when he got a chance to tour South Africa. He was expecting on his return to become engaged to his 18-year old girlfriend Cheryl. He even bought a diamond at Kimberley for the occasion.
Just before the fifth Test, Hubble received a telegram from Cheryl expressing sudden ambivalence about their relationship.
Hubble sought the manager's permission to go home but the manager could not grant it.
"I'm sorry, Jim, but you can't just leave. You've signed to play for a certain amount of time here and that's it."
The argument went on for an hour but the manager just said, "You can't. And that's the bloody end of it."
Hubble grabbed his lapels and shook him but the manager was firm: "You can shake me until you bloody well get tired. You're not going home."
The bowler eventually cooled down.
They eventually did get married a few years later!
