Cardus story

Neville Cardus met Lindsay Hassett on one hot night in Adelaide after the latter had bored the spectators with a stroke-less innings of 68.
Cardus asked him, " Are you, too, forgetting how to hit the ball? Are you joining Cricketers' Union of Universal Borers? Good heaves, Lindsay, what's the matter with you? "

Hassett instantly replied, " Wore out! Just plain wore out."

In his first five or six years in FC cricket, Hassett was a swift-footed, elegant stroke maker.
The last eight years was very different. He became a safe sheet anchor and often ended up boring spectators.

He was one of the greatest characters ever to play Test cricket, though.

As for the Cardus story, X never scored 68 in Adelaide!
