3000 runs in a season by playing just three shots

Bill Alley scored over 3000 First-class runs in 1961.
He played every shot in the game when he joined Somerset in 1957 but he kept getting out.
Gradually he cut them out till in 1961 he only had three left: the dab wide of gully, the hook, and the hoik over mid-wicket.
These three shots fetched him 3000 runs in that season.
