If you're a cricket fan,
you've played the 'World XI' game either with yourself or with friends
compiling the best international cricket team. The game is played in
either the context of current players or 'of all time'.

I never congratulate
Australia for winning, so it seems odd to do it for India. They beat
Australia, which should be the aim of any team playing a test. They
trained hard, the conditions helped, the injury to Hayden helped, and
they out played Australia, this lead to a test win.

This is going to be a very labored piece, struggling to break out of
the strong cluster of cliches that Indian cricket administration
usually puts you in. It is a pattern that we have all resigned
ourselves to now. On a rough average, once in about every two months we
have to take a few minutes out from whatever we are doing, bring along
a few knives, wipe the limited amount of dust on it and wave it at the
BCCI, or the selectors.

After arguably the greatest test match of all time got over in March 2001 in Kolkata,
and Australia’s streak of 16 consecutive test wins was broken, the
losing captain Steve Waugh said that he was happy that it at least took

The 600th wicket happened

Roy, tsk tsk tsk,
We all know you smacked the ball on to your pad today to be given out
"bat before wicket", but the shot you played today was not that of a
Test cricketer - it was reminiscent of my young nephews who I have been
frequently bowling to in backyard cricket over the summer holidays.
Their idea (like Roy's today) of a straight bat includes ensuring that
all balls pitched around middle, off and even outside off need to be
smacked to mid wicket.

Against my better judgement, I really like Andre Nel.
Then again, I have always been partial to mass murderers and cult leaders, so maybe he just continues that trend for me.

On January 5th 2008, with his first innings score at 45, Brian Lara
swept promising Guyanese leg-spinner Zameer Mohammed outside his
off-stump and perfectly bisected long-off and square-leg for his fourth
boundary. A mundane detail but for, as with all things Lara, the
viewing. Like the rest of what would soon become his 66th first class
century, it was done with a liquid fluidity that brought a collective
gasp amongst all there.
The romance between the Prince and his local faithful was back on....in a big way.
