When I
was in high school, there were a bunch of guys that I really disliked. They
were the school jocks, the star athletes that were really good on the playing
field, but absolute jerks off it. Then there was the next level, guys who
played sports for fun and were good at it, but who never really cared to become
THAT good. Then there was the last level, guys like me who had two left feet
and would always drop the catch that came their way.

Responding to Jonathan’s
hat-trick of posts – a first on this site (it probably won’t take 30 years to
break this record though). Md Yousuf has always been considered a class act,
but somehow the status of a matchwinner has eluded him. This kind of a record
does put its own spin on his stature, but if the confidence of getting a record
like this leads him on to innings of even greater impact, then it could fulfil
an important function.

West Indies vs Pakistan 2nd Test (Day 3) Lara
196 not out
Brian Lara's latest
epic is now shutting the door on all speculation as to the greatest batsman the
modern game has seen and yet I ponder on the numerous erroneous (and critical)
decisions that have gone against him through his Test career - at times to
global condemnation, but no redress. An average of 53 could have been 60
and an appalling team win-loss record perhaps less so.
