About Me
| About Me: | Ravi Singh West Indies Location: Brampton, Canada I unfortunately began to follow cricket when West Indies began their decline from the top of the mountain. My earliest memories were that of the infighting, when Richie Richardson, a great batsman and a gentleman of the game, was removed from the helm of the team in murky circumstances, which have been the trademark of the WICB since. My fondness memory is that of Lara scoring 153 no in the 3rd test of the 1999 series, West Indies vs. Australia at the Kensinton Oval, Barbados. With Courtney Walsh as his partner, WI won the test match by 1 wicket. At the time, I was stuck in the hills of the Northern Range in Trinidad on a hike. Rain was pouring down and one guy in the group had a small radio. Fifteen guys sat around a clearing in the middle of the forest, barely hearing amongst the sound of thunder and the wind that sprayed the leaves and raindrops around is a wild dance. Scores were tied and then Lara hit the winning boundary to go one up in the series. It was a sight to behold, 15 bare backed Trinis from all races, African, Indian, White & Chinese all jumping around and giving high fives like madmen. Since then, I have had a lot of bad memories, and several good ones. Chanders, Sarwan & Omari Banks successfully chasing the 418 for a test record; Sarwan waltzing down the track and smacking Shaun Pollock for six in the opener in the 2003 World Cup; Bradshaw & Brown winning the Champions Trophy. I have never played hardball cricket. Played in a number of windball cricket matches, but never did much except in the field. However, I did have quite a few daydreams of bowling down the opposition and getting the first 5 consecutive wickets in Test cricket and scoring a century at #11 to win a test match against the Aussies. Plus I can bowl amazing spin with my left hand. Unfortunately I can’t land the ball anywhere near the batsman for it to be considered a valid ball. I recently moved from Trinidad and am now living in Canada. I’m a Technical Support Analyst with an IT consulting firm. I play tennis, shoot a recurve bow in archery and have Cricinfo book marked on every computer I use. |
