About Me
| About Me: | Name: Jim Ribbans Nationality: English Location: Singapore It's hard to fathom why anyone should be attracted to cricket. It's a long, slow, somewhat tedious game played by 'flanneled fools' and administered by avaricious vultures. And yet somehow it's a game that casts a siren spell over millions around the world. My early initiations into the joys of the 'greatest game' came courtesy of my father. Whether lolling alongside me on the grass at Lord's or tearing me from my bed to watch highlights of Botham besting the Aussies at Headingley it was his abiding love for the game that set me on the road to addiction. Many years down the line I've been lucky enough to make the business of broadcasting cricket my living. As a producer and executive producer I've worked on four World Cups, countless Test and ODI series and met many of my 'heroes' along the way. For the record, and as someone who's had some insight into the caprices of the modern game, I'm as cynical and scathing about 'the way cricket is going' as the next man. At the same time though I maintain an overwhelming love for it. What's not to admire about a game that can produce the majesty of a Lara cover drive, the thrill of King Curtley's baleful stare or the high farce of Phil Tufnell's efforts with the willow? |
