Recently, the BCCI banned a film producer from taking on some ICL
cricketers for a cameo in his film. The producer who fell for it could
not have been very bright because the BCCI have little clout in the
film industry.
There were also allegations of undercover ICC officials stopping a game of cricket Craig Mc'millian was trying to play on the beach. There were also more sinister rumours of Dinesh Mongia being disallowed from carrying a cricket magazine covering official ICC matches with him to the bathroom, an incident which left the player in question deeply disturbed and reflecting on his basic rights as a regular loo-user.
The BCCI, having bullied the ICC to become their friend in this
venture, have been busy trying to stamp out everything they can about
the ICL.
There are many who feel the BCCI is wrong to be so bull-headed about wanting to push the ICL off the cliff, and they should sit back and look for peaceful co-existence, since they are making more money anyway. There are some, on the other hand, who are convinced the BCCI isn't doing a good job of bullying the ICL at all, and in its usual myopic manner, has completely overlooked a horde of things they could ban. Here are some of them
1) Ban spectators who have attended ICL games from stadiums hosting any
of the IPL or international cricket matches. On the other hand, reward
anyone (male) who streaks during the ICL matches or disrupts the game
in any way. 2) Ban french beards. Subhash Chandra, head honcho of Zee, the ICL organizers, has one. 3) Ban broken English, and English spoken with rustic accents. Kapil Dev, ICL's biggest supporter and BCCI public enemy no.1, speaks in one. 4) Ban commentators and experts who comment on the ICL games, such as Tony Grieg and Dean Jones, from commenting on any other cricketing event. That will actually go down well with the masses, something that is bound to put the BCCI in unfamiliar territory. 5) Ban popular chants or slogans used by spectators during ICL matches. Other non-ICL cricket viewers do not need to worry about losing their favourite chants because it is very difficult to picture anyone going, 'Chak De Ahmadabad Rockets!' 6) Ban the colour red, it is the colour on Zee's logo. Any redhead found amongst the skimpily dressed cheerleaders will be made to dance all the time and not just when boundaries are hit. 7) Ban writers who speak for the ICL and take digs at the BCCI through sarcastic articles. No, wait, don't.
