The Book Values of the teams are out and a little bit of analysis will help in understanding the performances of the teams better, and more importantly, will give key insights into where they will go in this last week of the IPL.

Jaipur: 2456

A lot of credit is no doubt due to Shane Warne for his wonderful captaincy, but the real assets to the team are Smith, Watson (both carrying their international values forward to a higher notch), Asnodkar and Yusuf  Pathan (both adding a lot of value despite having no international backing). Consistent bowling performances by all bowlers, specially Tanvir,  has added to their value, and they have emerged as possibly the best pick of the lot.

Mumbai: 2200

Though on a general high with a lot of wins, it is the individual talents that have led Mumbai's charge, with the biggest contribution coming from Jayasuriya ( who is the second most valuable player in the IPL at the time of writing) with a whopping 580+ points. Also, a consistent bowling performance throughout the tournament led by Pollock has kept their book value going strong.

However, the whole framework is too Jayasuriya-dependent, and the value could improve if more batsmen contribute their share. Also note that Mumbai is the team with the least international points to fall back on.

Kolkata: 1853

Mediocre performances from 4 key batsmen (of which two - Ponting, Mc'Cullum, who didn't do a lot after his 150- have returned to their international commitments, and one - Gayle - never played) has seen their performance as well as value fall.

However consistent returns from the bowlers (the best amongst them being Akthar) has kept them in the hunt, atleast in terms of book values if not in the actual competiton.

Mohali: 2262

Yuvraj may not have done a lot in the IPL but the huge kitty of points he gathered in international T20s have maintained his position as a valuable asset for the team's book value. Solid and consistent performances from Jayawardene, Sangakara, Chawla, Pathan and of course, Marsh, have kept the performances running high, and thus giving them a good, healthy standing.

Hyderabad: 2368

Hyderabad's high book value may come as a surprise.

This, of course, is not on acount of their IPL performances at all, but is insteady purely thanks to the huge bouquet of points their internationally acclaimed T20 players brought in, with the result that though the performance of the company in this tournament has been poor, they stay afloat purely on the basis of their past achievements .

However one may say that these international superstars have gone on to complete the seemingly difficult task of bringing down even their lofty international stats with their pathetic IPL performance. A round of applause, everyone!

However V. Rao  and  Afridi (providing a steady stream of points through his bowling, despite his absymal batting) could be considered as real assets to the team.

Bangalore: 1381

Unlike their counterparts Hyderabad, Bangalore lacks the cushion of  international T20 points. Veterans like Kallis, Boucher, Zaheer, Misbah and Taylor have done their bit to keep the book value from plunging into 3 figures, though the season has, no doubt, been embarrasing.

Chennai: 1931

Regular performances and international point banks of players like Dhoni, Hayden, Hussey and Oram, alongwith valuable contributions from Badrinath, Raina and Balaji have seen them in a decent position book value wise. However after the nuclear-powered start the current state of affairs will have a 'what could have been' feel to it. Too many ups and downs in the recent games mean the team has ended with less than what it could have achieved.

Delhi: 2315

With players like Sehwag and Gambhir who came in with a lot of international T20 points coming good in the IPL, these are happy times for Delhi investors. The two together contribute nearly 1000 points, which doesn't reflect very well on the rest of the batting, though.

However, players like Dhawan, Mishra and McGrath have also helped in boosting Delhi's book value with solid, regular performances. With the middle order also coming good, Delhi investors may be in for a bounty if they make it to the semis.

Most Valuable Asset in the IPL so far:
Gautam Gambhir, with 670 points.

Coming soon; The best and worst assets of the IPL
