Welcome back for Sri Lanka's reply. The players are out in the middle.
This is a good recovery from West Indies. They were 40/3 in 14.2 overs when rain stopped play, but cameos from Russell and captain Holder has given their bowlers something to bowl at. So the revised target for Sri Lanka according to the D/L method is 163. Not a big target and the hosts should fancy themselves to seal this contest.

Nicely bowled by Mendis, he bowled this slower through the air, Bravo was beaten by the lack of pace on the ball, lost his shape while slogging and the ball crashed into middle and leg. Darren Bravo b A Mendis 38(58) [4s-3 6s-1]

Mathews to A Russell, out Caught by Gunathilaka!! I would have to say that this is a lucky wicket for Sri Lanka and Mathews. Normally, a full ball right in the slot would be deposited deep into the stands by Russell, but he's mistimed this loft completely. Long-off settles under it and takes a comfortable catch. A Russell c Gunathilaka b Mathews 41(24) [4s-3 6s-3]
Mathews to A Russell, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

Jayasuriya to J Carter, out Bowled!! That is an excellent delivery from Jayasuriya. Carter punches his bat with the glove in anger as he walks back to the dressing room. 20:17 Local Time, 14:47 GMT, 20:17 IST: The latest news is that the game will restart at 20:30. 26 overs per side.
20:00 Local Time, 14:30 GMT, 20:00 IST: Good news once again. The drizzle has stopped and the covers are being peeled off. Hopefully, the weather will be kind on us this time.
19:50 Local Time, 14:20 GMT, 19:50 IST: It is still drizzling at the ground. "I doubt we will have a game as the drizzle is persistent and more covers are being brought on the ground," tweeted Roshan Abeysinghe a little while ago.
19:20 Local Time, 13:50 GMT, 19:20 IST: Oh dear! The drizzle is back and the covers are coming back. This is frustrating.
19:05 Local Time, 13:35 GMT, 19:05 IST: "Game has a restart at 7.30 and the overs reduced to 34 overs with the target based on the DL method," tweets Roshan Abeysinghe. So West Indies will bat for another 19.4 overs.
18:35 Local Time, 13:05 GMT, 18:35 IST: The covers are being removed, but there is a lot of water on the outfield. I assume that the groundstaff need at least 45 mins to 1 hour to get the ground back in shape.
18:28 Local Time, 12:58 GMT, 18:28 IST: Finally some good news. Then rain has stopped and the groundsmen are out in the middle.
18:24 Local Time, 12:54 GMT, 18:24 IST: It's still raining. However, it is just a light drizzle now.
18:00 Local Time, 12:30 GMT, 18:00 IST: There is a lot of water on the covers already and this is going to take some cleaning. The rain is quite steady and unrelenting.
17:30 Local Time, 12:00 GMT, 17:30 IST: Not great news folks. The rain has picked up. In fact, it is quite heavy at the moment.
17:04 Local Time, 11:34 GMT, 17:04 IST: The drizzle has picked up speed and the groundstaff are rushing with the covers. We will lose overs now. We lose one over for about every 4 minutes. Fingers crossed! Let's hope that this is a small stoppage.

Lakmal to Samuels, out Lbw!! No end to Samuels' misery on this tour, but this one looked a bit rough on him. The ball pitched around off and nipped back in slightly, Samuels was caught in his shuffle as he looked to flick it towards the on-side. He missed and is struck on the inside part of his knee. Samuels yelped in pain and hobbled away, the umpire added to his misery by taking a long time before lifting his finger. Replays suggest that the ball was just clipping the top of leg-stump. As unlucky as it can get. Samuels lbw b Lakmal 2(13)
Lakmal to Samuels, THAT'S OUT!! Lbw!!
Samuels has been given out LBW. He wants a review. Is height an issue? Did the ball pitch outside leg? Fair delivery, looks to have pitched in line, it just needs to clip the stumps for the decision to stay. 2.5 -
Malinga to Andre Fletcher, no run, once again the slower ball yorker, Fletcher keeps it out
2.4 -
Malinga to Andre Fletcher, 2 runs, oh Fletcher was almost beaten by this slower delivery and could have so easily been out plumb LBW. Luckily for him, he managed to get an inside edge as he tried to dig out and it rolled to fine leg, Lakmal slides in the deep and just manages to flick it back in time without touching the rope
2.3 -
Malinga to Andre Fletcher, no run, full and outside off stump, Fletcher drives it to the right of backward point, where Dilshan makes a diving stop
2.2 -
Malinga to Darren Bravo, 1 run, Malinga tries the yorker, but bowls a low full toss, driven gently to mid-off
2.1 -
Malinga to Darren Bravo, no run, huge shout for LBW, Malinga looks very confident and wants the captain to review it. To me thought it looked as if the impact was outside off stump. Anyway, let's go through the process. Legal ball as Malinga's front foot is fine. Oh dear! Looks like Sri Lanka are going to lose their only review. A bad review as the impact is well outside off. The third umpire wants to confirm if there was an edge before having a look at Hawk-Eye. You might wonder why they don't look at Hawk-Eye first in such cases, but there a process for DRS and the umpire has to first ensure that no bat was involved. No edge and Hawk-Eye says impact was way outside off stump. Sri Lanka lose their only review. Fullish delivery angled, Bravo tries to drive, missed and got hit on the front pad
2.1 -
Malinga to Darren Bravo, wide, oops! Malinga tries to angle one in, but bowls way down the leg-side
Malinga to come round the wicket for the left-hander

Darren Bravo, left handed bat, comes to the crease

Lakmal to Charles, out Lbw!! Big shoutttt and the finger goes up. The appeal was a confident one from Lakmal and umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge took a while to make the call. Was it too high? Charles thought about the review, but then decided not to send it upstairs. Dream start for Lakmal and Sri Lanka. This good length delivery skids off the surface and thuds into Charles' pad as he fails to defend. He was beaten for pace more than anything else. The line wasn't a problem as it hit him in line with middle. The fact that it hit Charles on the back pad meant it didn't a lot of distance to travel and Hawk-Eye confirms that the ball would have crashed into the top of off stump. Charles lbw b Lakmal 1(2)
Lakmal to Charles, THAT'S OUT!! Lbw!!
1.2 -
Lakmal to Andre Fletcher, 1 run, length delivery on the off stump, Fletcher walks across the stumps and works it through backward square leg

Andre Fletcher and Charles are at the crease. Andre Fletcher is on strike. Malinga will open the attack
Two slips in place for the outside edge.
From 40/3, West Indies rode on cameos from Russell and Holder to make a great recovery after a very long rain break. In reply, Sri Lanka looked set to seal the game comfortably, but lost their plot under pressure. Eventually, it was a narrow escape for the hosts as Mendis held the nerve when it mattered. So the 3-match ODI series is off to a cracking start. These two teams will square off again at this venue for the second ODI on Wednesday. Looking forward to your company then. Take care, goodbye!
Mathews: "It was a lucky escape. We made a real mess towards the end. We were cruising through. I started off the collapse by playing a bad shot. Lesson learnt, I thought the bowlers bowled really well. It was demanding conditions. Suranga (Lakmal) bowled magnificently. They (tailenders) have been batting quite a lot in the recent past in the nets. Mendo (Ajantha Mendis)'s innings was magnificent today."
Holder: "Not too disappointed, but it's a tough loss. When Russell went off, it was a big loss because we had to bowl part-time bowlers at the end. We didn't bowl well in the first powerplay, but credit to the way we fought back. Credit to Russell for playing a breezy knock. He gave us the impetus."
Dilshan: "It was a tricky total. I think myself and Kusal set tone. We got the momentum early on. They bowled a little short to me, so I tried to take advantage. They tried to get extra bounce, but unfortunately they didn't bowl the right lengths and I capitalised. It was a good pitch to bat on. It's a good one-day wicket."
Dilshan is the Man of the Match for his 32-ball 59.
Ajantha Mendis played sensibly and also made sure that he played some attacking shots to put pressure back on the visitors. With 11 runs needed for Sri Lanka, Holder gave the penultimate over to Johnson Charles and the ploy back fired as Charles conceded the match by bowling a poor over. West Indies badly missed the services of Russell, who walked off the field after injuring himself while bowling. That meant Holder was a bowler short and it cost West Indies in the end.
It was a case of so near yet so far for the West Indies. With Kusal Perera and Dilshan getting Sri Lanka off to flier, it looked as if the hosts would hunt down 163 with some overs to spare, but West Indies fought back brilliantly to gain the upper hand. Dilshan made a breezy fifty, his 46th in ODIs, but Narine, on his return to international cricket, turned the match on its head by accounting for three wickets in a single over. All of a sudden, from 132/4, Sri Lanka were reduced to 133/7.
Mendis punches his gloves with his partner, in fact he doesn't know that he's sealed the contest for his side. He now realises that the game is over and hugs Lakmal. The Sri Lankan fans are elated in the stands. Captain Mathews is all smiles. Mendis raises his bat to the crowd as he makes his way to the dressing room. The players shake hands with each other. Phew! What a game this is!
24.5 -
Charles to A Mendis, SIX, in the airrrrrr and that's gone all the way. Ajantha Mendis, you beauty! What a knock under pressure. Can't bowl length balls at this stage Charles, Mendis goes deep in the crease and across the stumps as well, throws everything at it and slogs really hard, the ball went high up in the air and cleared the long-on boundary
Free-hit coming up
24.5 -
Charles to A Mendis, no ball, 2 runs, dropped, but it won't count. First he bowled a wide and now he's overstepped the line. Slower delivery on the stumps, Mendis slogs, deep mid-wicket runs forward, dives and gets both hands to it, but it doesn't stick it
24.4 -
Charles to A Mendis, no run, slower delivery on the stumps, Mendis goes for an almighty slog, gets an under edge that rolls into the on-side
24.3 -
Charles to Lakmal, 1 run, short of length delivery on the leg stump, Lakmal works it through square leg
24.2 -
Charles to Lakmal, no run, full and on the off stump, driven back to the bowler
24.1 -
Charles to A Mendis, 1 run, short of length delivery on the leg stump, Mendis works it behind square on the on-side
24.1 -
Charles to A Mendis, wide, oh no! Wayward stuff from Charles, shortish and down the leg-side, Mendis walks across the stumps and tries to tickle it fine but misses. Sri Lanka could have easily got a boundary had Mendis got some bat on it as fine leg was inside the ring
Johnson Charles, comes into the attack
12 balls remaining, 11 runs to get, 1 wicket in hand.
23.6 -
J Carter to Lakmal, no run, on the off stump, Lakmal defends off the front foot
23.5 -
J Carter to Lakmal, no run, poor hat-trick ball, short of length delivery outside off stump, ignored
Suranga Lakmal, right handed bat, comes to the crease
23.4 -
J Carter to Malinga, out Lbw!! What a turnaround this is! Carter is on a hat-trick now. Nothing but a good length delivery from Carter, Malinga missed the line completely, in fact he played outside the line as he tried to defend. The ball hit him in line with leg and it was crashing into the leg stump according to Hawk-Eye. The umpire immediately raised his finger, but Malinga reviewed, only for the on-field call to be proven right. Malinga lbw b J Carter 0(1)
J Carter to Malinga, THAT'S OUT!! Lbw!!
That should be out LBW and it's given. Malinga reviews after a thought. Surely, only an edge can save him. Looked pretty straightforward. Malinga took a while to review, so that's a sign that he didn't edge it. It has clearly missed the bat. Hawk-Eye confirms that the ball would crash into the leg stump and the on-field decision is upheld.
So then, 11 runs needed with 2 wickets in hand.
Lasith Malinga, right handed bat, comes to the crease
23.3 -
J Carter to Senanayake, out Bowled!! That's gone through the gate. This is great bowling from Carter. Maiden ODI wicket for him. He shaped the previous one away from the right-hander and then shapes this back into him. Senanayake completely foxed. He was lazy in his attempted push down the ground and the ball took the inside edge before crashing into the middle stump. Captain Jason Holder is elated. Senanayake b J Carter 7(13) [4s-1]
J Carter to Senanayake, THAT'S OUT!! Bowled!!
23.2 -
J Carter to Senanayake, no run, beaten. Late outswing on this short of length delivery outside off stump, Senanayake tries to guide it to third man, but misses
Sri Lanka need only 11 runs now
23.1 -
J Carter to Senanayake, FOUR, remember, this lad can bat. He's no mug with the bat. Full and in the slot, Senanayake doesn't try to over-hit the ball, just lofts it back over the bowler's head and it runs away for four
23.1 -
J Carter to Senanayake, wide, pacy bumper, Senanayake ducks under it, but the umpire doesn't like the height on that one. That was well above head height
Holder ends, 5-1-29-0. Narine, Holder and Carter have a chat and it's going to be Carter with the ball.
22.6 -
Holder to A Mendis, no run, beaten. Short of a length delivery on the off stump, Mendis backs away and thinks about the cut, decides against it at the last moment and the ball flies past the edge. A maiden over from Holder
22.5 -
Holder to A Mendis, no run, very full and on the leg stump, Mendis flicks it to mid-wicket. It's 5 dots in a row, but Sri Lanka won't mind
22.4 -
Holder to A Mendis, no run, looks like Mendis wants to play out Holder. Short and on the off stump, Mendis rises tall and defends well
Some anxious faces in the West Indies dressing room.

Holder to A Mendis, no run, short delivery on the off stump, Mendis stands tall and defends
22.2 -

21.3 -
J Carter to A Mendis, no run, excellent delivery from Carter, yorker on the off stump, Mendis digs it out
21.2 -
J Carter to A Mendis, 2 runs, that's driven nicely off the front foot, that gets the crowd dancing in the stands, this was a good shot off the front foot, but the slow outfield denies him a boundary. It was full and outside off stump, Mendis square-drove it nicely past point
Sri Lanka need 21 runs off 29 balls.
21.1 -
J Carter to A Mendis, 2 runs, my word! He's playing some brave shots and this is looked very good indeed. The crowd are up on their feet cheering Mendis. Good length delivery just outside off stump, Mendis advances and chips the drive over cover

20.5 -
Narine to Senanayake, no run, flighted delivery outside off stump, Senanayake pokes at it as he tries to defend and gets beaten
20.4 -
Narine to A Mendis, 1 run, he's mistimed this completely, mid-off runs back but it lands safely. Oh there could be a run-out, but Mendis returns. Once again no calling from Mendis as he tries the second run, Senanayake stayed put at the other end, the fielder had some ground to cover and that gave Mendis enough time to get back
20.3 -
Narine to A Mendis, FOUR, top shot, big roar from the crowd, four crucial runs. Shortish and outside off stump, Mendis goes on the back foot and also makes room, cuts it away past point and it runs away for four
20.2 -
Narine to A Mendis, no run, beaten! Flighted delivery outside off stump, Mendis looks to defend, but the ball beats the edge
20.1 -
Narine to A Mendis, no run, what was Mendis doing? Firstly, it was an outrageous slog-sweep attempted, the ball rolled to the right of mid-wicket, then Mendis takes off blindly for a run, but his partner doesn't respond, the throw comes to the keeper and just before Ramdin whipped the bails off, Mendis made his way back to the crease. The third umpire had long look at it and was convinced that the bails weren't dislodged when Mendis' bat was on the line
Run-out check has been sent upstairs. Mendis is the man in question. Did the dive save him? Oh yes, just in!
The equation now is 28 runs needed off 36 balls. Can Sri Lanka hold the nerve? Narine to bowl out.

The match has completely turned on its head after that Narine over. What an impact he is having on his return to the West Indies setup.
18.6 -
Narine to Gunathilaka, out Bowled!! I told you Narine is a handy bowler to have when bowling to the lower-order. Sri Lanka's inexperience is hurting them badly. Once again the quicker delivery from Narine, Gunathilaka plays inside the line as he tries to defend, misses and the ball hits the off stump. What an over from Narine, just 1 run conceded and 3 wickets in it. Gunathilaka b Narine 12(18) [4s-1]
