The Pakistani bowling was disciplined. Irfan started it by picking a wicket off the second ball of the match. Imad Wasim continued to impress and Yasir Shah kept it tight. Sri Lanka would be disappointed with the final score. Once again the hosts' batters failed to make the most of good batting conditions. Only two fifties in the entire innings and had it not been for the 109-run 2nd wicket stand, the final score would have been much less. After losing Perera in the first over, Dilshan and Thirimanne steadied the innings. Both got to fifties and it was the latter who carried on and almost notched up a ton, before falling 10 short. Cameos from Chandimal, Siriwardana and Malinga ensured that Sri Lanka reached a competitive total.

Azhar Ali: "You can't control the toss, it is the team that had to fight. Whatever we are doing first, you have to do it well. Getting a wicket in the first over was good, but they had a partnership and we pulled it back nicely towards the end. All the bowlers need to be praised, they stuck to their plans and kept coming at the batsmen. We are working very hard in practice and having youngsters in the team helps. Mathews: "After the start we got, we kept losing wickets at crucial times. Unfortunately, 256 was not good enough, it was a fighting score, but not enough. We need to adapt to the new rules. It was turning quite a bit, but there was no penetration in our bowling attack. He (Malinga) was bowling well and was swinging it well, so kept him going. We have got nothing to lose, but we need to play positive cricket (speaking about the last ODI)."
It was the same story for Sri Lanka. Their fragile bowling line-up was exposed brutally and the lack of wicket taking options - barring Lasith Malinga, would leave the team management worried. This is also the first time since 2006 that Sri Lanka have lost both the Test as well as the ODI series at home to Pakistan.
It was a cruise for the tourists. Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad started briskly, the former fell, attempting one too many shots, but not before having put his team in early control. The loss of Azhar Ali didn't dent Pakistan one bit. Shehzad was in his zone and he was well supported by Mohammad Hafeez. The duo added 115 runs for the second wicket, to all but seal the match as well as the series. Shehzad missed out on a hundred, well held by Kusal Perera at third man, for 95 but Hafeez took control of the chase. He completed his 27th fifty, but missed out on a ton, a sudden rush of blood consuming him. Sarfraz Ahmed and Shoaib Malik made sure that there were no more casualties as Pakistan strolled home by 7 wickets - with 55 balls to spare.
Pakistan complete a comprehensive win and move ahead of West Indies in the race for qualification for the 2017 Champions Trophy. They aren't certain of qualification though - the tri-series involving the two teams and Zimbabwe, scheduled to be held in September, will decide the final place.
