The action has started...two slips in place

After the end of the 30th over, England were 227/4 and the only thing to look forward to was whether they will go past 400 or not, they could not but registered their second highest score in ODIs (408/9 against New Zealand at Birmingham is their highest total). No matter how much we sympathize with the bowlers, one cannot deny that they could have put more effort. There were not many slower deliveries and yorkers - a modern-day necessity. The ball is travelling and the pitch is an absolute belter. If you are a fan of boom-boom cricket, South Africans have ABD in their ranks. He will relish batting here and may avenge the beating his bowlers suffered at the hands of the visitors. Chase coming your way in a while...

It is tough to be a bowler. You have to feel for them in the shorter formats of the game. It must take an effort to wake up every morning, knowing that for the entire day, they will be clobbered all around the park. It was one of those days for the bowlers. They came, bowled and England batsmen thrashed them. In between, there was a century from Buttler, half-centuries from the other three batsmen. Bowlers tried all they could, Morris and de Lange bowled a beamer each (unintentional though) but to be fair, these days even beamers do not look threatening.

Will Tahir be able to snare the English duo?

Drinks are on the field now. England would be mighty pleased with their efforts. The chariot is charging forward and looks good enough to cross the 400-barrier. They have lost Root but that does not seem to be hurting their plans. They bat deep and it would be interesting to see what ploy the hosts apply to contain the Englishmen

4.4 - C Morris to Jason Roy, 2 runs, short and angled into the batsman, Roy swivels and pulls behind square to add another couple to his tally

Looks like Roy has twisted his knee, when Behardien flung the ball, it hit the stumps and deflected back onto Roy's knee. He seems to be in some pain as physio examines. Meanwhile, the South African players form a huddle. Sipping in a few drinks too...Right then! Roy looks alright and we are ready to go again...

4.3 - C Morris to Jason Roy, no run, another pacy fullish delivery, around off this time, Roy walks across to block to mid-on. Behardien fires an unnecessary throw at the striker's end and Roy, for a fleeting moment thought of squeezing a run but Hales isn't interested

0.3 - C Morris to Jason Roy, FOUR, well executed! Pitched and Roy's eyes lit up as he clobbered the forward drive past cover, no point chasing that lads

0.2 - C Morris to Jason Roy, no run, much better! Good length and swung in sharply outside off, Roy covers his off-stump and shoulders arms

0.1 - C Morris to Jason Roy, FOUR, follows up with an equally poor delivery, back of a length on the pads, Roy flicks and finds the gap through mid-wicket, raced away!

Jason Roy and Hales are at the crease. Jason Roy is on strike. C Morris will open the attack

The pitch was a cake and everyone who came in to bat kept having a piece of it. The openers took England to a quick-fire start, Root steered the ship, Stokes put his foot on the accelerator and then Buttler's stellar ton sped it away on this road of a pitch. A target of 400 could see teams crumble but de Kock, despite Amla and de Villiers failing, put on an exhibition of shot-making to pile up a ton and get to his highest individual score. However, so tall was the target that the chase looked short despite de Kock's innings and rains interrupted before the chase could assume interest. That's it from today. Keep watching the space for more cricket. Goodbye and goodnight!
