Hello again! The players are out in the middle. We are ready to resume. Tim Southee to start with a slip in place. Murali Vijay to take strike. Let's roll...

Sandeep Sharma was the best bowler on show and Mohit gave a good account of himself in the slog overs, but rest of them were disappointing. Even though, it is a flat deck, it is going to be an uphill task to chase the target down for a struggling PUN side.

Ambati Rayudu and Parthiv Patel stitched what turned out to be an unconstrained partnership of 137 to ensure MUM would harvest a sizeable total. Both had their fair share of luck as Parthiv was dismissed off a no-ball and Rayudu was dropped in the deep by Axar Patel. Buttler, carded at No.4 in the batting line-up, spread innovation into the innings by unfurling a few big shots and eye-catching scoops to befuddle the opposition.

Mohit Sharma to Hardik Pandya, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

Krunal Pandya, left handed bat, comes to the crease

19.5 - Mohit Sharma to Pollard, out Caught by Sandeep Sharma!! Good last over this from Mohit Sharma. Bowls a slower full ball outside off, Pollard fetches the heave from there and could only manage a top-edge. Sandeep Sharma runs back from short third man region and accepts it gleefully. Pollard c Sandeep Sharma b Mohit Sharma 10(9)

Hardik Pandya, right handed bat, comes to the crease

18.4 - Johnson to Parthiv Patel, out Caught by S Marsh!! Mitch has a wicket, finally. Dug in short and well outside off, Patel made room early but was too wide to reach out for a pull stroke. 17.4 - Mohit Sharma to Buttler, no run, full and in the channel, Buttler attempts a reverse flick but the ball was too pacy, missed by a long way

17.3 - Mohit Sharma to Buttler, FOUR, stand and admire! This man can manufacture shots at will. Yet again, wanders across swiftly and scoops this finer than the previous one. Preity Zinta ain't happy with the proceedings

17.2 - Mohit Sharma to Buttler, FOUR, lovely stuff from Jos! Shuffles quite early and gets what he wants. Fuller and wider of off, he nonchalantly scoops it over short fine

17.1 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, 1 run, Patel walks across the stumps and powers this full ball to long-on. Lack of timing or power? A mix of both I guess...

13.5 - Johnson to Parthiv Patel, 2 runs, you gotta be kidding me. Parthiv Patel has been dropped, again? He seems to have carrying loads of luck today. Lofts a fullish delivery, Mohit Sharma at mid-off leaps high and tries to clasp it with one hand, couldn't cling on...

13.4 - Johnson to Parthiv Patel, FOUR, kept a bit low this shortish delivery, the diminutive dynamite rocks back and pulls powerfully over mid-wicket, deep fielders aren't stopping that

13.3 - Johnson to Parthiv Patel, no run, slower short of length delivery angled across, around the fifth stump channel, Patel is early into the hoick, a swing and a miss!

12.6 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, FOUR, this is even better, much like what Suresh Raina does. Moves to the leg-side of the delivery and then carves it over the infield, the ball races away to the deep extra cover fence

12.5 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, FOUR, that's field awareness, Parthiv is still left with embers if not fire in his belly. Backs away and then lofts this length delivery past the fielder at mid-off. Was not far away from the fielder but Parthiv will get well-deserved runs

12.5 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, wide, this time he will be. In fact, not harsh but fair, slips this one well down the leg-side, Patel wanted to whip it away, was nowhere near it

12.4 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, no run, Parthiv moves across trying to lap it past the keeper. The ball missed the leg-stick by a whisker. The umpire is not harsh on the bowler this time

12.3 - Mohit Sharma to Rayudu, 1 run, wanted to poke this length delivery towards third man, got an inside edge towards short fine leg for a single

12.2 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, 1 run, fifty for Parthiv now. Slower delivery and he wanted to lap it fine, was caught wanting, ended up hitting it towards backward square leg. Was in the air for a while but dropped short of the fielder stationed there

12.1 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, 2 runs, Sharma keeps it on length around stumps, Patel whips it wide of Maxwell at deep mid-wicket. Enough time to sprint back for a couple

11.3 - Axar to Rayudu, 1 run, pats this flatter delivery to extra cover for a single. Gets to his fifty as well

11.2 - Axar to Rayudu, FOUR, goes inside-out on the lofted drive this time and connects well. Difficult shot against a darter like Axar, finds the gap through extra cover

11.1 - Axar to Rayudu, SIX, now Rayudu hits it into the long-on fence. Uses his feet and makes a bit of room while doing so, flogs it over the long-on fence

10.6 - Pardeep Sahu to Parthiv Patel, SIX, that is the first six of the innings for Parthiv and a beautiful one. It was right under his eyes and he lofted it handsomely, using a bit of wrists as well. He even came down the track to make it a bit easier for himself The ball went deep into the stands at long-on

10.5 - Pardeep Sahu to Rayudu, 1 run, Rayudu once again plays the trajectory not the length, drags the slog sweep to long-on for a single

10.4 - Pardeep Sahu to Parthiv Patel, 1 run, half-tracked once again, Patel fails to cash in. Pulls it straight to the fielder at deep mid-wicket

10.3 - Pardeep Sahu to Rayudu, 1 run, gets an inside edge on the sweep, the ball rolls down to short fine leg for a single

10.2 - Pardeep Sahu to Rayudu, no run, Rayudu punches this one back to the bowler, who wants to catch Parthiv Patel short by flicking it back on the stumps, has no luck there

9.4 - Axar to Rayudu, 1 run, Rayudu has it easy this time, push-drives this flatter delivery to long-off

9.3 - Axar to Parthiv Patel, 1 run, eases the drive off the front foot to sweeper cover

9.2 - Axar to Parthiv Patel, no run, third umpire has to wake up from slumber. Stumping appeal against Parthiv Patel. Fair delivery. The umpire wants to have a look through various angles. Now he wants the stump camera, tells you that it is closer than what I thought initially, In fact, Parthiv Patel had started walking off, looks just in. Now he is asking, "anything other than this.." I am afraid there is nothing else to make his job easy. He has made his decision and it is Not Out. Wider delivery and Patel failed to connect with the drive after coming down the track, had made too much room but the keeper did not dislodge the bails in time.

9.1 - Axar to Rayudu, 1 run, Rayudu wanted to go leg-side and wanted t go big. Adjusted in the end and then drove, staying leg-side, towards long-off

8.5 - Pardeep Sahu to Parthiv Patel, 1 run, clips this one from the crease to mid-wicket for a single

8.4 - Pardeep Sahu to Rayudu, 1 run, lucky reprieve for Rayudu. Dragged this slog-sweep in the air, Axar Patel from deep mid-wicket covered a good distance, slid in front, got both his hands and then let the ball burst out. Lifeline for Rayudu as well

8.3 - Pardeep Sahu to Rayudu, FOUR, not always does a batsman spare you on poor deliveries. Once again short and wide, this time Rayudu cuts it and beat Maxwell's dive at the deep backward point fence

8.2 - Pardeep Sahu to Parthiv Patel, 1 run, now Parthiv follows his partner's suit. Pulls this half-tracker straight to the fielder at deep backward square leg

8.1 - Pardeep Sahu to Rayudu, 1 run, a cake which Rayudu refused to eat. Short delivery, he pulls it straight to the fielder at long-on, takes a single in the end

Pardeep Sahu, right-arm leg break, comes into the attack

Sahu has to reload as the batsman was not happy with something

6.5 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, 1 run, Patel gets on his toes to get comfortable with the bounce of this delivery and then works it through mid-wicket for single

6.5 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, wide, that grunt from the pacers which is always indicative of slower ball. A bumper it was, too high and called a wide as well

6.4 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, FOUR, Mohit did not have any idea that Rayudu's instincts have rubbed to Parthiv as well. He opened the bat and steered it fine into the third man fence, the fielder for Parthiv was inside the ring. Now he has been sent back

6.3 - Mohit Sharma to Rayudu, 1 run, see what did I tell you on the first ball of this over. Once again Rayudu had space outside off and he did what he does always, steers it to third man

6.2 - Mohit Sharma to Parthiv Patel, 1 run, chops this back of a length delivery towards cover-point and runs with the shot for a single

Mohit Sharma, right-arm medium, comes into the attack

The no ball from Johnson was the first by a Punjab bowler this season and what an awful time to bowl that. Parthiv would have thought that he ran out of luck but fate had something else in store for him. Picked up a couple of boundaries instead

5.5 - Johnson to Parthiv Patel, FOUR, and another one, similar delivery, sent down the same region, a touch squarer though. The fielder is inside the ring and Johnson has to suffer

5.4 - Johnson to Parthiv Patel, FOUR, not this time though. Freebie it was and Parthiv optimized, swiveled across and touch and whipped it past the fielder at short fine leg

5.3 - Johnson to Parthiv Patel, no run, slower delivery and Patel makes the mess of free-hit, spoons it to mid-wicket, golden opportunity wasted

5.3 - Johnson to Parthiv Patel, no ball, Parthiv picked the wrong side of the ground to pull this one and runs short of power. Found the fielder to perfection but Johnson's celebrations were cut short as the umpire asked Parthiv to wait. Replays were heartbreaking for Punjab, Johnson had overstepped. Free-hit coming up

5.2 - Johnson to Rayudu, 1 run, angles this one outside off, allows Rayudu the width required for a dab-to-third man single

5.1 - Johnson to Rayudu, FOUR, that's poetic from Rayudu, pacy delivery on the stumps and Rayudu did not try anything fancy. Kept his bat straight and lofted it over the fielder at mid-on, quick outfield did the rest

2.4 - Sandeep Sharma to Parthiv Patel, 2 runs, just as he punched this one off the back foot, he opened the bat-face a touch to find the gap through cover. Was not timed that well and that allowed the fielder to cut it off, wanted the third as well, Rayudu did not oblige

Punjab are in doldrums. Another beating and making it to the eliminator, let alone the qualifier, looks tough. Mumbai have had a fluctuating season. Another win for them and they now go back home to face KOL's spin. That will be interesting, given that Mumbai is a graveyard for many a tweakers. That's it from tonight. Join us back tomorrow. Till then, a good night from Pratyush Sinha on behalf of Abhishek Chaudhary, Raju Peethala and Siva. Ta-ta!

Parthiv Patel: "Didn't get starts in a couple of games and very important knock from a personal point of view. Wicket was dry and Rayudu is a fantastic player in good form. I wasn't in good form and batting with him helped me. Hopefully the momentum will get me through."

Parthiv Patel is the Man of the Match

Rohit Sharma: "This win means a lot, considering the last few games didn't go as we wanted to. This win is very important and is the kind of performance we expected. Very pleased for Parthiv and that partnership with Rayudu set the platform. We knew 190 was enough because it was stopping and even reversing at the end. There was some pressure when Maxwell and Marsh were playing, because they are quality batsmen. But we had five bowlers and Southee created that opportunity for us. The way Bumrah and Mitch (McClenaghan) bowled at the end was fantastic. All games from here on are important but we want to take one game at a time. Our focus should be now on KOL. All of us are looking forward to face them at home."

"We bowled pretty poorly on this big ground. Conceded many boundaries. Too many loose balls from the spinners in the middle. Too many free hits. 190 on that track and with big outfields was always going to be challenging. Missing the run out and that no ball to give Parthiv a life. Marsh is batting well. Miller got a few hits too. We are going deeper with every loss. We have a 5-day break and we will regroup again and come back fresher for the second-half of the tournament," says Sanjay Bangar who's filling in for an injured David Miller

For MUM, it was the century stand between Parthiv Patel and Ambati Rayudu that had propelled them to a very good total. Jos Buttler also thrilled the fans with his pyrotechnics. On the other hand, PUN's fielding was largely below par and that didn't help their cause in the end.

Riding on Glenn Maxwell and Shaun Marsh's breezy knocks, PUN hung on by their fingernails for a while, but eventually slipped towards a defeat. Bumrah snuffed out PUN's slim hopes by castling Maxwell with a slower one. PUN looked to lift the tempo a bit too late and that perhaps cost them dear. The Kiwi duo of Southee and McClenaghan put up fine efforts. Bumrah, too, mixed it up well in the slog overs.

1.3 - McClenaghan to Vijay, no run, bouncer angled away outside off, Vijay aborts his pull at the last instant and allows it to sail over

1.2 - McClenaghan to Vijay, no run, goodish length outside off, Vijay is happy to push that to cover

The umpires converge to discuss something. Not sure why...

1.1 - McClenaghan to Vijay, FOUR, length ball curved in ever so slightly on middle, Vijay picks the length and smack-bangs it over mid-wicket with a lovely flick of the wrists. Elegant stuff!

One slip for the Mitch from MUM...

Mitchell McClenaghan, left-arm fast medium, comes into the attack

Over: 1 0 0 1 0 0 0 PUN 1/0
Vohra 0(3) Vijay 1(3) Southee 1-0-1-0

0.6 - Southee to Vohra, no run, a soft outside edge that dies down in front of lone slip. Fuller and curled away slightly in the corridor of uncertainty, Vohra seeks to drive but luckily the edge doesn't carry

0.5 - Southee to Vohra, no run, fuller and swinging away in the channel, Vohra pushes towards cover with soft hands

0.4 - Southee to Vohra, no run, back of a length outside off, tapped in front of backward point

0.3 - Southee to Vijay, 1 run, dropped! Well! This has been a common trend this evening, ain't it? This good length delivery arrives much later than Vijay expected. Checked his loft and spliced it to the left of mid-on. Krunal Pandya gets across but fails to hang on

0.2 - Southee to Vijay, no run, short of length outside off, Vijay dabs with a slightlty angled bat towards backward point

0.1 - Southee to Vijay, no run, good length nipped in around off very slightly, Vijay prods forward and offers a defensive push towards cover

Vijay and Vohra are at the crease. Vijay is on strike. Southee will open the attack
