Right, here it is. The all important chase. A loss here would leave BLR vulnerable to mathematical equations. Needless to say, Kohli is absolutely huge. But if his opening partner finds his straps, as he does so often at the Eden, it will be fun to watch. Russell has a slip in place...

Manish Pandey: "I think I played well. Things have been on and off in the season so far. When I got a chance, I made full use of it. Eden's always very loud and it's difficult to hear things. We had to take the extra runs; unlucky that the ball went straight to the fielder (talking about the run out). I think we batted well and it's a good total on this wicket. The spinners should come to use here."

Andre Russell and Shakib pressed the pedals in the last 5 overs and added 59 runs in that period. So, KOL will be happy to post that total and will look to spin a web around the strong BLR batting with their array of tweakers. Join us back for the chase!

On a sticky wicket, KOL did really well to get 51 for the loss of only one wicket in the powerplay. The only wicket to fall was of Uthappa but after that Gambhir and Pandey did well to steer the KOL ship. The good run continued after the powerplay and Gambhir reached his 31st T20 League fifty in the process. A horrible mix-up between the two batsmen resulted in Gambhir getting run out. Pandey also reached his fifty but got out in trying to up the tempo in the latter stage of the innings. Regular wickets between the 10th and 15th over put brakes on the KOL scoring rate.

Kohli was furious after that wide call. Was all in the face of the umpire to mouth out his frustration and the mouthing out with Kohli is never a pleasant sight. Vettori was furious on the sidelines too - was seen talking animatedly to the umpire in a long chat. The disappointment is fair but Bangalore have to ensure that they don't go overboard with this. It was just a wide and Jordan made sure that it only cost them a penny

A Russell 39(19) Shakib 18(11) Watson 4-0-46-0

19.6 - Watson to A Russell, 2 runs, Jordan is leaping all around, making batsmen fall and all. This time, the brilliance is at deep square leg. Russell had slotted the whippy sweep off this low full toss round the corner, the ball was looping away and Jordan pulls out a last minute mini-dive up and over to slap that ball back in. And then recovers to throw it back in style

19.6 - Watson to Shakib, 2 wides, how is that a wide? Where's the eye doctor? That's inside the line by a mile. Angled away from over the wicket, Hasan looks to fetch it with a swipe and misses.. And then runs to make matters worse

19.5 - Watson to A Russell, 1 run, a full toss again, Russell is excited and thrusts too much into his swing too early. Off the inside edge to fine leg

19.4 - Watson to A Russell, FOUR, switches to round the wicket again to cut the width and ironically gives it. Cloaks it in a full toss to make matters worse and Russell slaps it over backward point. All power

19.3 - Watson to Shakib, 1 run, back to over the wicket for Shakib, gets a wide yorker length delivery going and Shakib pushes it to point meekly. More importantly a single

19.2 - Watson to A Russell, 1 run, oh, lovely ball. Goes wide from round the wicket, fires it on the fringes of the left pad and Russell's turn-around tickle only rolls to square leg

19.1 - Watson to Shakib, 1 run, a full toss dips, Shakib waits and sweeps a single to deep mid-wicket. Russell is back on strike

Over: 19 0 1 Wd 1 1 0 6 KOL 171/5
A Russell 31(15) Shakib 16(9) Jordan 3-0-22-0

18.6 - Jordan to A Russell, SIX, power. Brutal. Murdered. Gets a fullish delivery, launches his arms and brutes the ball over long-off. The bat swing measured in tonns of wattage there. And the elbow straightening sound? Let's leave it

18.5 - Jordan to A Russell, no run, what a ball. Jordan is having a moment - a get-the-batsmen-down moment. Again looks to back away, then looks to sweep this very full ball and then falls again. Right on the ground. Skews it onto his pad, the ball ricochets onto his midriff as Russell was on his descend to the pitch..

18.4 - Jordan to Shakib, 1 run, makes room too early and gets a wide yorker. Reaches out to toe-end the cut to point

Some voting system in place at the Eden Gardens and over 50 percent had voted the Pathan's wicket not out

18.3 - Jordan to A Russell, 1 run, another one cutting in from a yorker length, Russell makes a bit of room and squeezes out a drive through cover

18.3 - Jordan to A Russell, wide, sees Russell's back leg kick back side on and looks for a wide-full ball outside off. But he overdoes it and is wided. Rahul is not happy. When keepers are?

18.2 - Jordan to Shakib, 1 run, makes room for this yorker dipping in and whips it to deep mid-wicket

18.1 - Jordan to Shakib, no run, Shakib is on the ground. Jordan has floored him with the USP that bought him an T20 League berth. A dipping yorker, looks to squeeze into the leg side and overbalances...and drops to the pitch all embarrassed

Chris Jordan [2.0-0-12-0] is back into the attack

Kohli is back on the field with taped fingers

Over: 18 1 6 1 6 1 1 KOL 161/5
Shakib 14(6) A Russell 24(12) Watson 3-0-34-0

17.6 - Watson to Shakib, 1 run, Eden Gardens can do that to you. Aravind has dropped it at third man and the crowd noise goes up two notches. How many gears do Bengalis have? Phew. Sees a full ball drifting wide, reaches out with a crouch and throws his bat at it. Off the toe-end, not enough power, the fielder is waiting and he lets that pot out...looked more out of panic than anything else. He was nicely behind the projectile

17.5 - Watson to A Russell, 1 run, thumps a full toss with a flat bat to long-on. Uppish but falling well short and AB does well to spear the ball back

17.4 - Watson to A Russell, SIX, oh, those wrists! Shuffles across and Watson fires it down leg but that doesn't hold back Russell. Winds up and whips it over fine leg. As carnivorous as a flick can get

17.3 - Watson to Shakib, 1 run, attempts it again but Watson had the length shortened. Ends up flat-batting it and the ball drops well in short of long-off

17.2 - Watson to Shakib, SIX, BOOM! That's really big! Gets a ball on a length to get nicely under it, sinks to one knee and slog-sweeps the bejeezus out of it. Over deep mid-wicket by a distance

17.1 - Watson to A Russell, 1 run, almost gets off his feet in trying to make room for clipping this yorker. Does so without losing his stumps. To fine leg

Over: 17 1 0 4 0 2 1 KOL 145/5
A Russell 16(9) Shakib 6(3) Chahal 4-0-38-1

16.6 - Chahal to A Russell, 1 run, and Gayle runs across (with heavy feet) from backward point and flings himself to cut this slap from Russell

16.5 - Chahal to A Russell, 2 runs, ah, redemption for Kohli. Had let a single leak away but this time dives in front at deep cover to block this ball that fell short of him. Short and wide delivery this was, Russell throws his bat at it and it falls well short of Kohli there. And Kohli seems to have split his webbing and is off the field

16.4 - Chahal to A Russell, no run, reaches out further this time to middle the cut, plays it well in front of square but slots it straight to cover

16.3 - Chahal to A Russell, FOUR, this is the legbreak turning away...going wide... Russell gets on his knee and toe-ends the cut through cover. That shouldn't have seen the fences but when you power it like that - almost like a whip - nobody can stop the ball

16.2 - Chahal to A Russell, no run, teases him with the flight, draws the front foot across but Russell misses the flat-batted whoosh

16.1 - Chahal to Shakib, 1 run, lets it turn and crunches the punch to long-off

Over: 16 1 W 6 1 4 1 KOL 137/5
Shakib 5(2) A Russell 9(4) Aravind 4-0-41-2

15.6 - Aravind to Shakib, 1 run, clips a low full toss to deep mid-wicket and keeps strike

15.5 - Aravind to Shakib, FOUR, that's been doctored away. Not quite in control but in T20s, it'll do. Everything does. Shuffles a touch, waits for the cutter and drives to cleave the arc between backward point and cover-point. Off the outside half as Shakib couldn't quite open the face completely

15.4 - Aravind to A Russell, 1 run, makes room for this full delivery on the stumps and canes this drive to long-off. That was powerfully timed, if that's a thing

15.3 - Aravind to A Russell, SIX, holy me! He just powers it away. No back foot weight transfer drama. Just spots the length short, rises in sync with the bounce and blasts the pull off the front foot over deep mid-wicket. *Why fear when Caribbean power is here* moment

Shakib Al Hasan, left handed bat, comes to the crease

Time-out!

15.2 - Aravind to Suryakumar Yadav, out Caught by I Abdulla!! And another wicket! And this is a very good adjustment from Aravind. Sees the shimmy and immediately pulls the length back to arrest it. Suryakumar Yadav goes ahead with the punch, arches back to power it over extra cover but couldn't. Gets more height than distance, and Abdulla runs back from mid-off in an angle and pouches it. Suryakumar Yadav c I Abdulla b Aravind 5(5) [4s-1]

14.6 - Chahal to A Russell, 1 run, gets the width and gently slaps the ball to point for a quick single

14.5 - Chahal to Suryakumar Yadav, 1 run, drills this curling in full ball with a shuffle across leg to long-off

14.4 - Chahal to Suryakumar Yadav, no run, now was there an edge? More like glove. Looks to cut this legbreak off the keeper's glove, but waits a touch too long to play it. The ball kisses the gloves and the keeper fails to hold on to it. Too tough a chance that for the keeper

14.3 - Chahal to Suryakumar Yadav, FOUR, shortish legbreak turning away, Yadav reaches out with the turn and slots this cut wide of backward point

14.2 - Chahal to Suryakumar Yadav, no run, defends this slider off the inside half of the bat

Suryakumar Yadav, right handed bat, comes to the crease

14.1 - Chahal to Y Pathan, out Stumped!! This was the craziest of dismissals you will witness. Not the shot, but the sheer reaction to the lack of it. Chahal tosses one up on a shortish length which tempts Pathan into a slog. He was waiting outside the crease for that, misses as the ball turns and Rahul takes the bails off in a jiffy. And then Pathan simply walked. Knew that he had dragged his back leg out and the replays showed that his bent back foot was inches outside. Is Yusuf the three-eyed raven or what? Y Pathan st Rahul b Chahal 6(12)

Chahal to Y Pathan, THAT'S OUT!! Stumped!!

Wait, what? A stumping appeal and Pathan is walking back to the pavilion! Third umpire going through the motions... But wait..He doesn't seem to have anything behind the line but was the bails flicked with ball lodged in the gloves? Yes.

13.6 - Aravind to Y Pathan, 1 run, buries his head forward, swivels and flicks the ball to backward square leg

13.5 - Aravind to Y Pathan, leg byes, FOUR, cutter splayed down leg, misses the tickle and is frisked off the pads to the fine leg fence. An appeal for an LBW that would have shamed rule books and the umpire is not digressed with that. A fail of an appeal

Andre Russell, right handed bat, comes to the crease

13.4 - Aravind to M Pandey, out Caught by de Villiers!! That ball summed up T20. Pandey backs away early to give away the cards and is followed by a full ball on his toes. The intention was to make room for a drive through off-side. Now that the room isn't there, he makeshifts with a whip and doctors the ball uppishly intending to clear long-on..but the lack of room meant that he could power it only as far as de Villiers in the deep. M Pandey c de Villiers b Aravind 50(35) [4s-5 6s-2]

Aravind to M Pandey, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

13.3 - Aravind to Y Pathan, 1 run, drops it very full on say middle, Pathan gets lower on this clip and rolls the ball to deep mid-wicket

13.2 - Aravind to M Pandey, 1 run, and he gets to a fifty. Claps. Very well played. Very full on the pads and he clips it to mid-wicket to get to the landmark

13.1 - Aravind to M Pandey, FOUR, that's sublime timing. Wow. He was out of the crease, sees a shortish length and almost oozes out an open-batted punch wide of a vacant point

Sreenath Aravind [2.0-0-21-0] is back into the attack

Y Pathan 4(8) M Pandey 45(32) I Abdulla 4-0-22-1

12.6 - I Abdulla to Y Pathan, 2 runs, a run-out appeal but it's an easy decision. Pathan is in by a mile. Taps to a vacant mid-wicket region and Pathan immediately called for two. Abdulla has to do all the work himself, runs across, gets hold of the ball and fires a throw to the striker's end. But Pathan knew the danger and had managed to drag the bat in

12.5 - I Abdulla to M Pandey, 1 run, low full toss, Pandey gets lower with the dip, all in sync and sweeps it to deep square leg

12.4 - I Abdulla to Y Pathan, 1 run, gargantuan front foot stride, leans into this flog of a drive and flashes it to deep cover

12.3 - I Abdulla to M Pandey, leg byes, 1 run, tries to sweep but the length is short. Off the pad again round the corner

12.2 - I Abdulla to Y Pathan, leg byes, 1 run, looks to use his feet, sees the length shortened and then pads it away into the off side. Pathan power in the pad too. Allows a leg bye

12.1 - I Abdulla to M Pandey, 1 run, shuffles and then holds himself, and then reaches out to tap this to backward point

11.6 - Watson to Y Pathan, no run, low full toss drifting down leg, turns around but misses the clip. Off the pads to Rahul behind

11.5 - Watson to Y Pathan, no run, lovely delivery. On a length and exploits the lack of movement perfectly. Gets this cutter to trim away, Pathan reaches out with a poke and misses

11.4 - Watson to M Pandey, 1 run, backs away to make room for the curl in, allows it to dip and then taps it to long-on

11.3 - Watson to M Pandey, SIX, oh my! That's been manhandled. Almost premeditates the length which is short, had the room made but the bumper does not deter him. Swivels on the front foot and murders the pull over deep mid-wicket. Audacious to say the least

11.2 - Watson to Y Pathan, 1 run, slow alright but this held up on the pitch on a fuller length and then kicked up. Pathan was pushing at it, did well to play with soft hands and popped it off the splice short of point

11.1 - Watson to M Pandey, 1 run, slowish on a fullish length, Manish waits for it and whips it through mid-wicket

Y Pathan 0(2) M Pandey 35(26) I Abdulla 3-0-17-1

10.6 - I Abdulla to Y Pathan, no run, this time the length is fuller and Pathan drives it off the front foot. Kohli throws the ball from short cover and Pathan had to back away to allow the keeper to take that. Pathan never left the crease and has a smile to offer

10.5 - I Abdulla to Y Pathan, no run, this full ball held in the pitch, Pathan is early in an ugly flat-footed push and defends it uppishly to the left of Abdulla

10.4 - I Abdulla to M Pandey, 1 run, shuffles into a wide stance and slaps a wide ball to deep cover

Yusuf Pathan, right handed bat, comes to the crease

10.3 - I Abdulla to Gambhir, out Gambhir Run Out!! Gautam Gambhir is livid but Kohli always will have more words. And more expressions. A tripe wide ball this was, Gambhir cut it straight to backward point and intended a run. Pandey reacts overenthusiastically, then Gambhir is forced to follow and there's a mid-pitch stutter. The two batsmen cross each other with heavy feet and Gambhir's gone as a result. Dart of a throw at the bowler's end and that was the end. Gambhir run out (Watson/I Abdulla) 51(34) [4s-7]

I Abdulla to Gambhir, THAT'S OUT!! Run Out!!

10.2 - I Abdulla to M Pandey, 1 run, flatter one pitted full, waits for the turn and closes the face of the bat on this tap to mid-off

10.2 - I Abdulla to M Pandey, wide, loops this wide of the tramline and is wided

10.1 - I Abdulla to Gambhir, 1 run, makes room to dangerously cut this ball spinning in from off and manages to cramp it out to cover-point

9.6 - Jordan to M Pandey, no run, off-cutter down leg, deflects off Pandey's thigh pad to the keeper as he misses the flick

9.5 - Jordan to M Pandey, no run, this time he is left cramped for space after walking out, Pandey is restricted to a punch back to the bowler

9.4 - Jordan to Gambhir, 1 run, it's all cutters from Jordan. And mostly on a back of a length. Gambhir dabs it behind backward point and brings up fifty. He looks absolutely pumped. First punches the bat and then punches the air with an intense look

9.3 - Jordan to Gambhir, 2 runs, good length off-cutter outside off, Gambhir chips it inside out over cover for a brace. Don't think he hit it as well as he liked to but got it in the gap

9.2 - Jordan to M Pandey, 1 run, so at home here, is Pandey. Steps out to find the bowler shortening his length and still goes through with a front foot pull down to long-on

8.6 - Chahal to M Pandey, no run, there is definite turn. Back of a length outside off, and rips away as Pandey tries to follow to beat the edge

8.5 - Chahal to M Pandey, 2 runs, plants the foot down and eases it with the turn square of the wicket on the off-side, sweeper cover is a bit too straight so there's an easy couple

8.5 - Chahal to M Pandey, wide, flatter and very wide outside off, left alone

8.4 - Chahal to Gambhir, 1 run, pulls the length back and fires it quicker outside off, Gambhir expects more bounce while looking to cut and ends up chopping it off a thick bottom edge

8.3 - Chahal to Gambhir, 2 runs, Gambhir shuffles to off, gets inside the line once more and glances it fine. Fine enough to allow a couple before deep backward square tidies up

8.2 - Chahal to M Pandey, 1 run, nice trajectory on the leg-break just outside off, driven down to long-off

8.2 - Chahal to M Pandey, wide, fired too wide outside off, perhaps weary of bowling it in Pandey's vicinity

8.1 - Chahal to M Pandey, no run, false shot. Pandey is trying to fetch the sweep from well wide of off. The length isn't conducive either as it's too full and so the ball sneaks under his willow

7.6 - Jordan to M Pandey, 1 run, one hell of a mix-up and both batsmen almost end up at the same end. But the throw ... the throw is at the wrong end and Pandey might have got away here. By the time Jordan takes the bails off, his bat is an inch or two inside the crease. NOT OUT it will be. Short ball outside off, Pandey swats it with a forehand straight of mid-off where the fielder dives to stop the ball cleanly. Pandey is nearly at the other end while Gambhir is caught ball watching. By the time the ball is thrown to the keeper, Gambhir gets his act together and hurries through

7.5 - Jordan to Gambhir, 1 run, slower short of length delivery outside off, Gambhir gets on top of the bounce and drops it with soft hands in front of backward point

7.4 - Jordan to M Pandey, 1 run, Pandey is deceived by the lack of pace and plays it too early in front of the body, bunts it in the air in front of mid-wicket

7.3 - Jordan to Gambhir, 1 run, might have been the off-cutter, back of a length outside off, patted in front of backward point

7.2 - Jordan to Gambhir, 2 runs, it's not the worst ball in the T20 format. Short of length on the hips to tuck the batsman up. Gambhir clips it behind square for a couple

7.1 - Jordan to M Pandey, 1 run, upon seeing Pandey giving the charge, Jordan cleverly bowls it short and wide outside off forcing him to reach for it. Pandey skews it off the bottom of the bat through the covers

6.6 - Chahal to Gambhir, FOUR, and now he uses the depth of the crease. Not for no reason is Gambhir called a brilliant player of spin. Creates his own length and slices the cut past backward point

6.5 - Chahal to Gambhir, FOUR, this is too full. Lands very close to Gambhir's crease allowing him to get under it and loft it inside out to beat long-off

6.4 - Chahal to M Pandey, 1 run, flatter and shorter outside off, chopped through the covers

6.3 - Chahal to M Pandey, no run, excellent comeback from Chahal. But Gambhir, at the other end, must be salivating. The turn. Tossed up on a length outside off, rips away to beat Pandey

6.2 - Chahal to M Pandey, SIX, "catch it" is the call from Rahul. What is he seeing? Pandey has muscled the slog-sweep well into the deep mid-wicket stands. He had lots of room as the ball lands on a length and he can get under it. Hammers it away

6.1 - Chahal to Gambhir, 1 run, oh Kohli. King Kohli has let one through him. Flicked innocuously to short mid-wicket and there should never have been a run there, but Kohli is a bit lackadaisical

Yuzvendra Chahal, right-arm leg break, comes into the attack

5.5 - Watson to M Pandey, no run, off-cutter on a good length, follows Pandey in his shuffle to leg and he can do nothing but clip it to mid-wicket

5.4 - Watson to Gambhir, 1 run, another near yorker outside off, this time Gambhir is well in his crease and he slices it to deep point

5.3 - Watson to Gambhir, FOUR, it's a good short ball from Watson, I wouldn't begrudge his effort there but Gambhir has rolled his wrists beautifully on the pull. He kept his eyes on the ball till as late as possible and transferred his weight back seamlessly to crunch it in front of square. A desperate dive from Chahal isn't good enough

5.2 - Watson to Gambhir, no run, Gambhir dances out of the crease presumably looking to open up the off-side but he's yorked outside off, tries to reach out and squeeze it away but can't lay bat on ball. Kohli gets excited into a loud appeal as he hears the bat hammer down on the pitch

But he should know his home conditions better than this. There's always turn here. He pops up a leading edge to the left of Abdulla who sticks out a left arm and the ball gets lodged in it. Uthappa c and b I Abdulla 2(4)

I Abdulla to Uthappa, THAT'S OUT!! Caught&Bowled!!

2.1 - I Abdulla to Uthappa, no run, a loud scream for LBW, and this looks close in real time. Uthappa shapes for the reverse sweep straightaway to the spinner but misses and the impact is marginal with respect to off stump. That's what the umpire seems to suggest. Could have gone either way to be honest

Iqbal Abdulla, left-arm orthodox, comes into the attack

Gambhir 12(10) Uthappa 2(2) Aravind 1-0-6-0

1.6 - Aravind to Gambhir, FOUR, clipped away wide of Jordan at mid-on and these outfields are so lightning quick that you can't allow it to pass through. Jordan still doesn't give up. He races after it and dives headfirst but to no avail

1.5 - Aravind to Gambhir, no run, again, the back of a length to Gambhir and close to off. Blocked calmly

1.4 - Aravind to Gambhir, no run, oh careful now. He wouldn't have forgotten how he got out recently. Not quite sure against whom but Gambhir's reaction to it is very vivid in my mind. The ball had stuck in his thigh pad and it rolled onto the stumps. This time he hops across off to get inside the line and is late on the flick, the ball deflects off his thigh pad to the keeper

1.3 - Aravind to Uthappa, 1 run, full ball on middle, Uthappa plants his leg across running the risk of having to play round his front pad. But the key is that he hardly misses from there. Works it wide of mid-on

1.2 - Aravind to Gambhir, 1 run, closer to the body looking to deny Gambhir the room to free his arms, he rises on his toes and tucks it from his chest through square leg

1.1 - Aravind to Gambhir, no run, kisses the pitch on a back of a length just outside off, Gambhir stays in the crease and blocks it back

Gambhir 7(5) Uthappa 1(1) Binny 1-0-8-0

0.6 - Binny to Gambhir, 1 run, very full outside off, Gambhir jams it wide of the man at cover but doesn't time this one well enough. Only a single

0.5 - Binny to Gambhir, FOUR, drilled through the covers. That's gone to the boundary quicker than you can say "blimey". Again, it's not quite a half-volley. But the bounce in this surface is so trustworthy that you can hit through the line. Driven gorgeously

0.4 - Binny to Gambhir, 2 runs, slower ball on leg, it's very full. Gambhir flicks it in front of fine leg who is a bit too enthusiastic and his dash of momentum results in a misfield allowing a second

0.3 - Binny to Gambhir, no run, back of a length delivery outside off, Gambhir wants to cut. You could see him shaping for it trying to lace it away, but the lack of width leaves him handcuffed and he tamely hits it to backward point

0.2 - Binny to Gambhir, no run, leaves the left-hander with the angle, no swing at all which diminishes a lot of Binny's potency, but Gambhir is happy to allow himself a sighter and leave it alone

0.1 - Binny to Uthappa, 1 run, full outside off, it's shorter than a half-volley so Uthappa doesn't really force on the drive. He gets a big stride forward and pushes it gently in front of mid-off

Uthappa and Gambhir are at the crease. Uthappa is on strike. Binny will open the attack

So, Kolkata hunted down in its own colosseum courtesy another Kohli-de Villiers dream partnership that was, for a change, aided by a Gambhir shell-saga tonight. Bangalore stays alive as a result. Kohli doesn't mind those stitches as long as BLR wins and I don't mind torturing my typing fingers as long as he scores. Oh, those flicks! With that, and a bit of overdose of Game of Thrones references, it's a good night from Pratyush Sinha on behalf of Sagar Chawla and our scorer Venkatesh. Ta-ta!

Kohli, who's also the Man of the Match: "It was a tricky run chase because the wicket was sticky and the spinners were gripping it. I knew I had to stay in. We spoke about a good partnership and I had one with AB - another 100-run stand - to take the team home. We haven't played well in Kolkata, so this win feels very sweet. Right time to go to Bangalore and really happy that Chris (Gayle) is back in form. Important to respect the sport and do the same things again and again. Was afraid that I had split my webbing badly but I told the physio that I want to play anyhow. A bit of injury gives extra motivation and it feels sweeter to do that extra bit for the team. We love the situation and we are not taking things easy, which is the greatest mindset to be in as a cricketer. Playing one ball at a time and we have the momentum at the right time. Wonderful again (p'ship with AB) and I told (AB) that we have to take the team home. He said, 'We will'. He runs so hard between the wickets and he runs for me, I run for him. We click in the middle overs where we run so well and that's the main game - to unsettle the opposition in the middle overs so that they start panicking. The split is big and I will go for stitches, 7 or 8 maybe, now as it's starting to pain now. I don't mind even 10 stitches as long as we win the next two games."

Ramiz Raja is on air with the presentations (and his booklet of adjectives and adverbs). Gayle deservedly getting a few awards for the the few sixes he blasted out of the ground!

King Kohli - Lord of the Seven Kingdoms and Protector of the Realm. Eater of run-chases and changer of worlds. Need I say more? There's a period in a sportsman's career where he is at his peak, where he has a purple patch. But Kohli has gone beyond all that. 184 on this pitch looked a treacherous task to me, but what did I know! Gayle and Kohli came out firing, in a mood to kill. No one was spared. The fifty came up in no time and Gambhir had no one to go to as even his top bowlers were going the distance. Narine managed to surprise Gayle with one that spun back in to trap him LBW. But nothing changed. AB came out and played a blinder himself, and this pair started from where they had left against Gujarat to hand KOL a humbling at home.

"Was a good wicket and we needed something around 180-190. We got 183, so thought that I was in the game. If I had taken that crucial chance (Kohli's drop), we could have put more pressure on them. We knew they would come hard at us on this good wicket, and one side of the ground had short boundaries, but they are a good quality chasing side too. They had given it their everything. Have not gone inside and checked on Russell but he's very crucial for us. Hope it's not serious because we have two crucial games coming up," says a sweating Gambhir

18.4 - Chawla to de Villiers, FOUR, BLR are prospering in this precarious situation. Needed a win tonight and they have it. And a win that put Eden Gardens on tranquilizers. Kohli said that he enjoys such situations and gosh, didn't he tonight. Gayle blasted away at the top - miraculously persisted with for the day - and then it was tough to get past AB de V(irat)illiers. Coming to the ball: drifts down leg, de Villiers winds up on his back knee and shames it with a paddle-sweep through fine leg

Piyush Chawla [3.0-0-28-0] is back into the attack

Yes, Russell has his arm around a team player with the yellow vest on and walks out. Who will complete the over? Chawla!

18.3 - A Russell to Kohli, 1 run, drills this very full ball to long-off...and Russell is on the ground prostrating. Got through his delivery stride and fell hands-first on the ground. Not sure what the matter this..the team surrounds him, the physio is out and looks like he will hobble out of the ground. Right-ankle, points Srivathsa

Only 3 needed!

18.2 - A Russell to Kohli, 2 runs, backs away to let this yorker curl in and jams it out to cover-point. A wild throw at the bowler's end and the duo run an extra. Can someone hug Gambhir?

18.1 - A Russell to Kohli, SIX, that bottom hand! Oh, that bottom hand! Took the ball on a journey that clocked over 90 meters. Gets it on a floggable length and swings it over deep mid-wicket

17.6 - Rajpoot to de Villiers, FOUR, and now he's been nutmegged. Don't ask me if this was intentional, might well be. Had his legs wide -with his right leg planted well down leg - and tries to squeeze it out with a clip. Between the legs and and the angle took Uthappa out of the equation. 11 off the last 2 overs needed

17.5 - Rajpoot to de Villiers, 2 runs, gets to his fifty now. If I would get a penny for every stunning partnership between Kohli and AB, I would own the Casterly Rock! The front leg was out to make room for the swing and the ball is clubbed to deep mid-wicket. The fielder was squarer and runs across well to cut it off

17.4 - Rajpoot to Kohli, 1 run, gravitates this full toss well in time to get the whip going...only as far as long-on

17.4 - Rajpoot to de Villiers, no ball, 1 run, a free-hit to de V(irat)illiers? Are you in your senses? And it was a full toss for someone's sake! Flat-batted to long-off tamely or this could have been more brutal

17.3 - Rajpoot to Kohli, 1 run, tries his luck with a dipping full toss and survives. Kohli opts for sanity and a drive to long-off off the front foot. He knows it's not a tough prospect from here

17.2 - Rajpoot to Kohli, 2 runs, charges down and skews this attempted loft off the inside edge to deep mid-wicket. Sees the fielder well deep and shoplifts two runs. 6 runs off 2 balls already!

17.1 - Rajpoot to Kohli, FOUR, he's just too much for Rajpoot. To put it bluntly. Had the room already, walks across to take on this off-cutter bowled on a length from round the wicket and bottom-hands the whip wide of long-on

16.5 - Shakib to de Villiers, FOUR, that's so, so harsh. Loops this brilliantly wide, de Villiers cuts if off the keeper's glove but is not in control. Off the bottom-edge and it runs away to the third man fence

16.4 - Shakib to Kohli, 1 run, leans across, frees arms but this slap finds cover again

16.3 - Shakib to de Villiers, 1 run, shortish length but the slowness of that delivery robbed the time on that cut shot to cover

16.2 - Shakib to Kohli, 1 run, driven off the front foot to long-off this time

15.4 - Narine to Kohli, no run, not very sharp from Kohli. Misses the slog-sweep, is hit on the box and has no idea where the ball is. Tries to sneak in a run but sees Uthappa swooping on to the ball and aborts it

15.3 - Narine to de Villiers, 1 run, legbreak that straightens within the stumps, and has good bounce. de Villiers tucks it away through mid-wicket

15.2 - Narine to Kohli, 1 run, slower, straighter and clipped to deep mid-wicket

14.5 - Shakib to Kohli, 1 run, sigh! Yawn. Kohli has another fifty! Gets an overpitched delivery and puts in a lot of bottom hand on this drive to the deep cover fielder

Shakib has to reload

14.4 - Shakib to de Villiers, 1 run, shuffles across to make room on the cut and the deep sweeper intervenes

14.3 - Shakib to Kohli, 1 run, opens the bat face and pipes this fullish delivery to backward point

14.2 - Shakib to Kohli, no run, brilliant. Slows this down and gets it to rip away. Kohli was perhaps expecting no spin and had the room made for the arm-ball. It goes the other way and beats the makeshift slap

14.1 - Shakib to de Villiers, 1 run, not that short but de Villiers explores the depth of his crease and pulls wide of long-on

Time-out it is. 59 off the last six overs looks very on. The pitch has actually surprised me - this was the same pitch that was used for the last game and that took turn. 13.4 - Chawla to Kohli, SIX, thundering! Skips out this time and plants a smoothie loft over long-on. That flew off the bat. Lovely bat swing and lovely followthrough of the bat to pat Kohli's own back

13.3 - Chawla to Kohli, 2 runs, that's a brilliant side-on somersault from Pandey at long-on and betters the effort with a quickfire throw back. This was drilled by Kohli. Smoked to say the least and but for that effort, this was drilling holes in the ad cushions
