This is this first time England have gone past 300 in three consecutive matches. With some swing available on this pitch, it will be interesting to see how the inexperienced English attack goes against the likes of McCullum, Williamson and Taylor. Join us in a short while to follow the run-chase.
Billings though played a handy cameo and both Stokes and him took the attack to New Zealand, hitting boundaries at will. He was dismissed after a 16-ball 34 and his downfall opened the floodgates for New Zealand. Soon England were bowled out for 302. For New Zealand, both their opening bowlers, Southee and the debutant Wheeler, picked up three wickets each. They were well supported by Henry, who chipped away with the wickets of Rashid and Willey towards the end. McClenaghan though was very disappointing once again as he turned out to be the most expensive Kiwi bowler, giving away 67 runs in just 8 overs.
Morgan though continued to play well and along with Stokes, he played some delightful strokes to push the English run-rate even further. He reached yet another fifty, his third consecutive fifty of this series. He put on a 55-run stand with Stokes, before Williamson got one to rattle into his stumps. Buttler then came out and hit two boundaries before edging one wide ball off Southee.
From 288/5, England lost their last 5 wickets for a paltry 14 runs to be bowled out for 302. New Zealand will be extremely happy with how well they pulled things back towards the end. England, however, didn't get off to the best of starts, losing both the openers when the team score was 34. Root and Morgan though played solidly as they stitched together a 105-run partnership for the third wicket. Just when Root was looking good to get another big one, he got out after going past his fifty.

This is Sidhant Maheshwari, signing off on behalf of Mani and Bharath. Goodbye folks!
That's all we have for you from this game. We witnessed another high-scoring game today and maybe, that's what we will get when both these sides clash next on Wednesday. Don't forget to join us then.
Williamson: 'I think that partnership with Ross (Taylor) was the key, but it was important to bowl England out. They played really well again. It was good to go out there and chase it down. I think recently, the roles in the side have been quite clear. The guys with different skills have performed in different areas of the game. It was great to bat like that. Ross has been outstanding, his contribution was massive, in the last game as well and in the first game too. Both of us got out towards the end which was a little bit frustrating, but the guys who went out did the job in the end. It was nice to bowl a few deliveries in decent areas. Hopefully, we can provide for some good entertainment for everyone next time as well.'
Kane Williamson is the Man of the Match for his 113-ball 118 and for taking Morgan's wicket
McCullum: 'Last game we were excellent with the bat. We weren't as tidy with the ball, but everyone tried hard. Today, it was great with how we pulled things back towards the end. We know what works for us. Sometimes we try way too hard, sometimes it's just about backing yourself and knowing that your skill can make a difference at this level. If you feel that you belong here, you try your best out on the field. Boult is a massive loss for us. His (Wheeler) debut was pretty good, it was pretty encouraging with the way he got the swing going. Very pleased with how Kane and Ross batted as well. We did what we needed to win the game and that's what we are judged on in the end. Looking forward to the next game now.'
Morgan: 'I think 300 was a pretty good score. Probably, not a match-winning score but definitely a good total. We were at one stage looking to score 350. I think we were pretty much in the game even after scoring 302, but it was the Kane Williamson-Ross Taylor partnership that took the game away from us. We set our standards way higher now. If we can continue to play like this, we will win more than we lose. The wicket was great, we didn't take all our chances as well. Hopefully, we can sit together and work on it, come back stronger in three days time. It's something that we are holding in on. We can set the bar high with the fielding and maybe with time, we will keep improving. We did a lot of things right with the batting as well. Don't mind getting bowled out in 40 overs as long as we get a big score.'
Earlier in the day, England after opting to bat first, lost both the openers early inside the first 10 overs. Skipper Morgan and Root combined for a 105-run stand for the third wicket, but Root got out soon after getting to his fifty. Stokes played a gritty knock as well, but threw his wicket towards the latter part of the English innings. England were cruising when they were 288/5 at one stage, but lost the plot afterwards. They lost the last five wickets for a meagre 14 runs, helping New Zealand pull things back to an extent.
However, the Black Caps lost some quick wickets towards the end after the loss of Williamson during the batting powerplay. Taylor too departed with 13 required to win during the final stages of the game. With wickets tumbling, Southee came out and ensured that he took his side home with a lofted hit. England bowlers were expensive and kept offering half-volleys to the settled duo. David Willey was the pick of the bowlers for them as he claimed three key wickets in the form of Guptill, Williamson and Taylor. He was well supported by Mark Wood, who was the most economical English bowler, taking 1/48 in his 10 overs. England though were also guilty of putting down some easy chances. The fate of the match could well have been different had they dismissed Taylor and Williamson earlier.
New Zealand lost the openers early and it fell to Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor to bail them out of trouble. The duo stitched a monumental 206-run stand for the third wicket, the highest partnership for New Zealand in ODIs against England. Taylor registered his second successive ton while Williamson, who missed out on a century opportunity in the last game, essayed a brilliant hundred as well. Both batsmen took the sails out of the English attack and helped New Zealand inch closer to the target. Both of them batted sensibly and essayed some delightful strokes during their brilliant partnership.
This is New Zealand's highest run-chase away from home. The players walk off after shaking hands with each other. Finn and Southee share a laugh with each other as they walk off. The Black Caps, led by Brendon McCullum, walk out to shake hands with their counterparts as well.
