South Africa will now go back home and prepare for New Zealand, who will be touring them in a few days time. Bangladeshi players will now take a break and their next assignment will be against Australia, where they will play a 2-match Test series at home in October. The cricket though will continue. Tomorrow, Zimbabwe will take on New Zealand in the second ODI. Remember, Chigumbura's men defeated the Black Caps yesterday, chasing down 304. The second ODI promises to be another interesting game. Don't forget to join us then. For now, it's time to say goodbye. Ciao!
That is the end of proceedings from this game and the tour. South Africa started well, winning the T20I series 2-0. They started the 3-match ODI series on a winning note as well. However, Bangladesh came back strongly to win the final two ODIs, winning their first ever bilateral series against the Proteas. The Test series turned out to be a damp squib, with rain having the final say in both the games.
Hashim Amla and Mushfiqur Rahim share the trophy and pose for the cameras.
Rahim: 'There are a couple of areas we need to work on. We need to improve each and every game. The boys were very confident, they did well playing against the best team in the world. Hopefully, we can take some positives from our experience in this series and take it forward. The weather hopefully will be fine when we take on Australia. It's time to enjoy, meet our families and we will come back fresh.'
Amla: 'Four days rained out in a Test match, it is an unusual thing. Cricket has been good, but we have hardly played much cricket here. The highlight of the series was probably Steyn's 400th wicket. The groundstaff did a great job. We are grateful to play a bit of cricket here, but it was not enough. Now, it's time to go back home and gear up for New Zealand. Temba Bavuma batted really well in the first game. In this game, the bowlers did a very good job on a track that didn't have much for them. We have a tour in two weeks, the preparations will start as soon as we get back.'
Dale Steyn is the Man of the Series for taking 6 wickets
Mushfiqur Rahim is the Man of the Match for his knock of 65
The presentation will take place in some time. We will bring you all the details and captain comments from the ceremony as and when it happens.
'We saw a lot of rain for the past three days. The ground hasn't dried well enough. There are many areas on the outfield where you feel that the surface is very loose under your feet. The outfield is just not ready. It would have taken around 4-5 hours to be fine but unfortunately, this is the last day play and there's no point asking the players to dive around on a muddy outfield. The players were happy with the decision to call it off, considering we have not seen any play after the first day,' say umpires, Richard Kettleborough and Paul Reiffel
Day 5: Unfortunately, we will not see any action in Mirpur today as well. Despite clear weather this morning, the Test match has been called off. With incessant rain over the past three days, the outfield has taken a pounding and the umpires have deemed it unfit to play. There are some very dark patches on the outfield, especially in areas that were left uncovered during the rainfall. The series ends 0-0.
It's extremely frustrating to see no action for the past three days in Mirpur. Tomorrow, the weather is supposed to be better, but I wouldn't pin my hopes on it. However, we will be here nice and early as always. Until then, it's time to say goodbye.
13:05 Local Time, 07:05 GMT, 12:35 IST: Another day, another washout! With unrelenting rain, the umpires have decided that there will be no play possible today and it's stumps on day 4.
12:45 Local Time, 06:45 GMT, 12:15 IST: It has stopped raining. We will update you as and when we have more information. Oh hold on! It is still drizzling, but it has eased off to an extent.
12:10 Local Time, 06:10 GMT, 11:40 IST: Oh dear! As expected, the skies have opened up once again and the groundstaff are rushing in with the covers. It is pouring down at the moment.
11:45 Local Time, 05:45 GMT, 11:15 IST: The umpires and the match referee took a look at the playing conditions and weren't satisfied. There will be another inspection at 13:00 local time.
Brian Murgatroyd's tweet: Teams have arrived at the ground; covers are off; but it's overcast - it's the hope that kills you! #BANvSA
Nikhil Mane has tweeted: The umpires are taking a look of the outfield... #BANvSA
11:30 Local Time, 05:30 GMT, 11:00 IST: As was the case yesterday and the day before that, the first session has been washed out. Feels like ages since we saw any action in this game. For now, the super soppers are at work, but it has gone darker. Let's just hope that it doesn't start raining again.
10:35 Local Time, 04:35 GMT, 10:05 IST: All the covers have been removed now. By the way, the teams haven't left their hotel yet.
09:57 Local Time, 03:57 GMT, 09:27 IST: Some good news as most of the covers have been taken off, including the centre cover. The groundsmen are working hard to get the ground ready.
09:35 Local Time, 03:35 GMT, 09:05 IST: Thankfully, the rain has stopped! However, there are some big puddles on the outfield and it will be hard work for the groundstaff to get the ground ready as quickly as possible.
Day 4: Oh! For the third day in a row, the rain is bucketing down in Mirpur. It isn't looking good at the moment. Remember, day 2 and day 3 were both washed out due to heavy rains. It was South Africa's bowlers, who had given their camp plenty to cheer about by snaffling wickets at regular intervals on the first day. For the hosts, Rahim had composed a crucial fifty. However, since then, the Test has been marred by incessant rain. Hopefully, we will get some play today.
With the rain not abating, day 3 has also been washed out. After the rain stopped in the morning, the groundsmen worked hard to get the ground ready for play and 45 overs were expected to be bowled. However, the heavens again opened up and that was it for the day. Hopefully, it will start on time tomorrow at 09:30 local. For now, it's time to say goodbye.
13:55 Local Time, 07:55 GMT, 13:25 IST: When everything was ready and we were set for play to begin, the heavens have opened up again. Hopefully, it is a passing shower and all the hard work from the groundsmen doesn't go in vain. Fingers crossed! Unfortunately, the rain has got heavier now and the covers are well in place.
13:35 Local Time, 07:35 GMT, 13:05 IST: The inspection is done. Finally, it is happening. Play to restart at 14:15 local. We will have 45 overs in the day and play can go on till 18:00 local.
13:17 Local Time, 07:17 GMT, 12:47 IST: The teams arrived at the ground and have started warming up. It is still a bit gloomy, but the good news is, there is no rain. We are well on course for the 13:30 inspection.
11:50 Local Time, 05:50 GMT, 11:20 IST: Some good news as the main cover has been taken off. The umpires are having a long discussion with the groundsmen. And they decided to have an inspection at 13:30 local
11:20 Local Time, 05:20 GMT, 10:50 IST: The slight drizzle has stopped. However, the covers are still in place.
10:41 Local Time, 04:41 GMT, 10:11 IST: The joy was shortlived. The covers are slowly going back on as it has gone dark and rain seems to be in the vicinity. So, we continue to wait..
10:25 Local Time, 04:25 GMT, 09:55 IST: More encouraging signs at Mirpur. It has become brighter and the covers are almost removed completely. Now, just have to wait for the groundsmen to clear the water accumulated in the outfield.
09:57 Local Time, 03:57 GMT, 09:27 IST: The covers are slowly being peeled off. So, that is great news. Neil Manthorp just tweeted, "Goodness me...we could be playing in about four hours...if the rain stays away."
09:47 Local Time, 03:47 GMT, 09:17 IST: The rain has stopped for the time being. However, there are plenty of water puddles and it will take a lot of time to get the ground ready. Stay tuned for more updates....
Some bad news to start the day as the rain is pouring down in Mirpur at the moment. Earlier, the second day's play, too, was washed out due to heavy rains. On day 1, South Africa had held the ascendancy after striking late in the final session. On the back of a fifty from Rahim, Bangladesh seemed be in a decent position. However, losing five wickets in the last session didn't help their cause. JP Duminy bowled with purpose and was rewarded with three wickets. Dale Steyn, who reached the glittering milestone of 400 Test wickets also picked up three scalps. With the rain continuing to lash down in Mirpur, this Test too is perhaps heading towards a draw.
We'll be back here nice and early tomorrow morning. Keeping our fingers crossed for the weather! Hopefully, we will have a prompt start tomorrow at 09:30 local. For now, it's time to say goodbye. Take care.
12:10 Local Time, 06:10 GMT, 11:40 IST: With incessant rain in Mirpur, play has been called off for the day. The umpires have made a quick call considering that the outfield won't get ready in time even if the rain stops now.
Neil Manthorp has tweeted: It's off for the day in Dhaka. Too much water on the covers and ground. Would take all day to prepare the ground, even if rain stopped.
11:30 Local Time, 05:30 GMT, 11:00 IST: With rain not abating, the first session has been washed out completely. It's lunch time now. Hopefully, the rain will stop soon and we will get some action on the cricket field. But for now, the skies continue to spit.
10:25 Local Time, 04:25 GMT, 09:55 IST: The rain stopped but only momentarily. It is back once again.
10:10 Local Time, 04:10 GMT, 09:40 IST: It is still raining and chances of any play during the first session looks bleak.
Weather update: Unfortunately, it is raining heavily at the moment in Mirpur. Both teams haven't left their hotel. This rain is a result of a deep depression over northeast Bay of Bengal that intensified into a cyclone, Komen. The wind speed of the cyclone has dropped considerably after making a landfall in Bangladesh, but it has triggered heavy rains. One can already see some puddles forming on the ground.
Hello and a warm welcome to our coverage of the second Test. Day 2 should turn out to be a keen contest between the two sides. On the one hand, the visitors will look to assert themselves by taking the last two wickets as quickly as possible and then getting a big score in their first innings. However, the home team need to bowl well otherwise, South Africa can take the game away from their grasp. Thunderstorms are predicted for the day. Hopefully, just like yesterday, it will stay away.
South Africa took a slew of wickets late in the day to gain the upper hand on day 1 against Bangladesh. Dale Steyn and JP Duminy picked up three wickets apiece. In particular, Duminy bowled with good control and extracted bounce to trouble the batsmen. Steyn, too, showed his worth by generating reverse swing and was rewarded with crucial scalps. He also became the second South African to snare 400 wickets in Tests. For the home team, Rahim compiled a fifty, but their batsmen couldn't convert starts into big scores.
The promised rain thankfully stayed away. Will it remain the same for the rest of the match? Cyclone Komen is expected to hit Bangladesh's coast tomorrow. Will it play spoilsport? We will be back early tomorrow. Join us for all the action. For now, cheers and bye..
The part-time off-spinner ended with three wickets and Dean Elgar got one - the wicket of top-scorer, Mushfiqur Rahim, out for 65. Shakib held firm but was dismissed by Morne Morkel, right at the fag end of the day's play. He became yet another batsman to waste a start, the story of the day for Bangladesh. The balance has tipped firmly in favour of South Africa - reducing the hosts from a healthy 180/3 to 246/8. The pitch is already showing signs of deteriorating and the visitors will be thankful for some late gifts offered by the hosts' batsmen.
With that wicket, the umpires have called stumps. A mixed day of cricket for both teams. On a pitch that didn't provide much assistance for the bowlers, South Africa will be happy to have scalped eight wickets. On the other hand, the hosts will wonder about the failure of their batsmen to convert starts into bigger scores. Dale Steyn was all fire and brimstone, Philander and Morne Morkel were tidy but it was JP Duminy who provided the much needed succour for Amla's men. With Simon Harmer proving to be a disappointment, Duminy's accuracy and variations brought plenty of relief for the visitors.

Elgar to Rahim, out Caught by Dane Vilas!! Rahim shakes his head as he walks back. Interestingly, the keeper calmed down for a while after appealing for it first time. As his team-mates were convinced, he joined them and appealed again. Was there a clear edge? One can't clearly make out. Since there was not enough evidence to overturn the on-field call, umpire Paul Reiffel's call was upheld. Flighted delivery outside off stump, Rahim looks to defend off the front foot, but the ball spins sharply, bounces a bit extra too and probably takes a faint edge en route to the keeper. End of a fine knock from the skipper. Rahim c Dane Vilas b Elgar 65(125) [4s-7]
Elgar to Rahim, THATS OUT!! Caught!!
Rahim has been given out caught behind, but he's reviewed it. No issues with Elgar's footing. Was there an edge? It's a tough one for the third umpire as there is no Hot-Spot, there is Snicko though. Looks like there is just a small spike on Snicko as the ball passed the bat. Is that a faint edge? Remember, the on-field call is OUT. Is there enough evidence to overturn Paul Reiffel's call. Third umpire is taking a look at different angles. There is just a tiny spike on Snicko. The pad was nowhere close to the bat, the bat didn't hit the ground either. The interesting thing is that the Snicko is not showing a big wave. It's been over five minutes now and the third umpire rules that OUT to silence the crowd.

In what turned out to be a keen tussle between bat and ball, the visitors took two wickets in the second session. However, Mahmudullah and Rahim played with assuredness to counter some fine bowling by South Africa. Steyn and Morkel generated reverse swing and proved to be a handful. Can the home team continue to pile on the runs? Or will South Africa strike crucial blows in the final session?
JP Duminy's double strike helped the visitors to make a comeback in the second session. However, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah played with a calm head on their shoulders to take the hosts to tea. Earlier, the start of the session was delayed for a brief period due to rain. After resumption, Duminy struck twice in quick succession to send the set pair of Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque back to the pavilion. Dane Vilas effected his first dismissal in international cricket by taking a fine catch off Mominul. But it has to be said that he gave Rahim a reprieve by dropping a tough chance off Simon Harmer's bowling. Dale Steyn and to some extent Morne Morkel generated reverse swing to trouble the batsmen, but weren't able to provide breakthroughs. Join us at 2:40 PM local for the resumption.

Once again the slider does the job for the offie. Kayes plays down the wrong line and he tries to work it into the on-side, it rushed onto him and hit him on the kneeroll and the impact was right in front of middle stump. The umpire checks for the front foot no-ball, but Duminy was well behind the line. Kayes didn't want to challenge the decision as he knew that it was pretty adjacent. Kayes lbw b Duminy 30(93) [4s-3]

12:10 Local Time, 06:10 GMT, 11:40 IST: The rain has settled for a while. The entire square has been covered. There is a nice breeze blowing across as well. Hopefully, it will take away the rain with it. As I type, the shower has stopped and the covers are being removed. We should have a resumption soon. It will restart at 12:20.
12:05 Local Time, 06:05 GMT, 11:35 IST: Welcome back.. there was a hint of some rain during the lunch interval and the pitch has been covered. We might have a slight delay in resumption.
Bangladesh have done well to recover from the shaky start. Tamim Iqbal failed to make the most of an early reprieve, flashing at a wide ball from Dale Steyn and becoming his 400th Test victim. Steyn became the second South African and the 13th overall to reach the 400 wickets milestone. If aggression cost Tamim his wicket, Imrul Kayes and Mominul Haque looked mature. Both left-handers took their time to settle, treating the bowling on merit, while making sure that they didn't miss out on punishing the bad balls. The pitch has stayed slow and low and there's nothing in it for the bowlers. To their credit, the bowlers have been very disciplined, sticking to their lines and lengths. The ball has gone soft and with both batsmen settled - they will look to push on with the scoring. Join us at 12:10 PM local for the resumption.
