Earlier in the day, the Pakistanis didn't get off to the best of starts with Shehzad struggling to get his timing right. Debutant Mukhtar Ahmed looked in good touch, but he too failed to convert his start into a big score. Afridi was wrongly given out, but the other batsmen failed to cut loose when it mattered the most. Sohail and Hafeez tried playing a few big shots towards the end, but in the end Pakistan could only manage 141 on the board. For Bangladesh, the debutant Mustafizur bowled really well and took 2/20, never allowing the Pakistani batsmen to get away. It was a dominant performance from Bangladesh with both the bat and the ball and in the end, the better team won.
Tamim Iqbal started with a bang, hitting two fours and a six in the first over. However, Soumya Sarkar was out on a diamond duck on debut as an accurate throw from Ajmal caught him short of his crease. Tamim too got out soon after and then Shakib and Rahim tried to consolidate for a little while. But Rahim fell in the sixth over, with the team score reading 38 on the board. Pakistan were well on top there, but ever since Rahman joined Shakib at the crease, both of them took the attack to the Pakistani bowlers. Be it Ajmal, Afridi or Riaz, both batsmen kept picking up boundaries in every over and were able to put the Pakistanis under a lot of pressure. In the end, their brilliant 100+ partnership was all that was required by Bangladesh to win the one-off T20I.
