Australian allrounder Glenn Maxwell has been named as Kings XI Punjab’s new captain in this year’s Indian Premier League.
Maxwell succeeds Murali Vijay, who took over as captain from David Miller midway through IPL 2016.
Maxwell, who did not have a great IPL for the last two years, was named as captain ahead of Eoin Morgan, who led England to the World T20 final in 2016, and Darren Sammy, who captained West Indies to two T20 World Cup titles.
Plenty of fans were shocked as Maxwell has never captained in any format and is currently not playing in the national side.
Kings XI Punjab finished last in 2016 and are hoping to turn their fortunes around this year.
