90.0 - Chameera to Finn, FOUR, top shot! Spots this shortish ball and nails the pull behind square

89.5 - Chameera to Finn, FOUR, full almost a yorker length, Finn gets behind the line and flicks it past mid-wicket

85.1 - Chameera to Bairstow, FOUR, short and wide, batsman cuts it over point and the ball races away to the fence

84.5 - Eranga to Finn, no ball, FOUR, top shot! Spots this fuller delivery on the stumps and flicks it past the square leg

83.3 - Pradeep to Bairstow, FOUR, two in two! This time the length was shorter, Bairstow camps on the back foot, waits for the ball it arrive and glances it wide of third slip. The ball runs away to the fence in a hurry

83.2 - Pradeep to Bairstow, FOUR, superb shot! Just picks this length ball early and whips it away over mid-wicket. No need to run for those

64.1 - Dasun Shanaka to Bairstow, FOUR, very full and on the stumps, Bairstow gets his straight bat out and drives it straight down the ground

61.0 - Eranga to Bairstow, FOUR, short and width on offer, begging to be hit, Bairstow goes back and cracks the cut. The ball runs away to the fence in a jiffy

55.2 - Pradeep to Bairstow, FOUR, streaky but four! This one came with the angle, Bairstow was half-forward, played it with soft hands, the ball takes the outside edge and runs away towards third man region

54.2 - Eranga to Bairstow, FOUR, nicely played, shortish and outside the off stump with a hint of shape, Bairstow gets on top of the bounce and punches it through cover region. The ball races away to the fence in a hurry

50.2 - Herath to Hales, FOUR, did he use a spider rest to play this drive? Got a big stride forward and drove this flighted delivery square of the wicket on the off-side, no chance for the fielder running from inside the ring

50.0 - Mathews to Bairstow, FOUR, fifty for Bairstow, 7th one for him, has played a sensible partner to Hales for sure. Fences this length delivery outside off to beat the gully fielder to his left on the dive, the ball squirted to the fence in no time

49.0 - Herath to Bairstow, leg byes, FOUR, this missed everything, Bairstow got low to sweep it but got it off his pads and beat the keeper and into the third man fence

46.3 - Herath to Hales, FOUR, touch short and not wide, but Hales went back and created a bit of room to flay the cut through the point region

43.0 - Dasun Shanaka to Bairstow, FOUR, very full outside off and Bairstow effects a T20 shot, well sort of. Squeezes the drive between gully and backward point, no third man and the ball raced away to the fence

42.1 - Dasun Shanaka to Bairstow, FOUR, half-volley outside off and these are agents of run-flow. Bairstow leans into the drive and finds gap between extra cover and mid-off, it went to the fence like a bullet

40.0 - Chameera to Bairstow, FOUR, this is the problem with these unorthodox tactics, tried to get this one into the ribs of Bairstow, did not quite get it there, Bairstow tucked it into the fine leg fence with ease

38.3 - Dasun Shanaka to Bairstow, FOUR, the kind of half-volleys batsmen use to get themselves out of the mire. Just outside off, Bairstow got a big stride forward and then drove past a diving extra cover fielder. Every minutiae about that shot was right

38.1 - Dasun Shanaka to Bairstow, FOUR, he beat the living tar out of this one. Width on offer outside off, Bairstow threw his bat at it, did not get off the meat perhaps but was hit so hard that it flew towards third man in no time

37.2 - Chameera to Hales, FOUR, 2nd fifty for Hales in Tests, could not have come at a better time. But England would like him to continue from here. Coming back to the delivery, a round-armish back of a length one outside off, Hales gets on his toes and punches past backward point, the fielder there put a dive but to no avail

36.0 - Pradeep to Hales, FOUR, full and on off, Hales did not try to hit it too hard, just leaned into the forward push, was not exactly a drive but had enough on it to beat a chasing mid-off

31.0 - Eranga to Stokes, FOUR, and this is even better, used the angle of the delivery and then caressed it off the back foot with ease, was able to find the gap through extra cover

30.5 - Eranga to Stokes, FOUR, who does not like an approach like this? Goes hard on the straight drive and gets it past the bowler with ease. Wake up from the slumber, Stokes has arrived

30.4 - Eranga to Stokes, FOUR, no matter what state the match is in, this man will play his shots. It was there on the middle and leg, Stokes moved across and clipped it just over a leaping man at mid-wicket, was not far away from the fielder there

29.0 - Eranga to James Vince, FOUR, what a way to finish the over, fuller length delivery on the stumps, Vince presents the full face of the bat and beats the bowler to his left

28.4 - Eranga to James Vince, FOUR, whose victory is that? As far as this delivery is concerned Vince has got a four via a well placed cover drive. But was not this exactly what Eranga wanted him to do, go for the drive, will want Vince to do that more often

28.0 - Pradeep to Hales, FOUR, this time Hales is well behind the line of the delivery, touch short and wide of off, he punches it after getting on top of the bounce, the ball races along a fast turf with ease

24.3 - Dasun Shanaka to Hales, FOUR, errs in line, spears this length delivery down leg, Hales rolls his wrists and clips it past square leg. No need to run for those.

19.4 - Chameera to Hales, FOUR, this time makes contact and finds the boundary, short and wide yet again, Hales doesn't miss the punch this time, hits it well wide of backward point

16.4 - Mathews to Hales, FOUR, short and wide, Hales goes on the back foot and punches it well wide of the fielder at point, no stopping that as it was timed well

16.2 - Mathews to Hales, FOUR, Mathews gets it fuller this time but the line is well wide, Hales leans on the front foot and drills the drive past the fielder and cover

14.1 - Mathews to Hales, FOUR, short and wide asking to be hit, Hales punches it well and wide off the fielder at covers, yet another boundary for Hales

9.2 - Pradeep to Cook, FOUR, top shot! Too fullish outside the off stump, Cook leans foward and creams the drive through the extra cover region and the ball runs away into the fence

9.0 - Eranga to Hales, FOUR, edged and four! Slightly fuller and plugs it away off the deck, Hales went for the drive, gets a thick outside edge which flew towards the diving gully fielder, misses him and rolls away into the third man fence

5.1 - Pradeep to Hales, FOUR, lovely shot! This was slightly fuller on middle, Hales twirls his wrists and flicks it through the leg-side. The ball rolls away to the fence in a hurry

1.0 - Eranga to Cook, FOUR, Cook is off and running. He gets off the mark with a boundary. This was slightly fuller on middle, Cook rolls his wrists and clips it past mid-wicket. The fielder gave the chase, dived but to no avail

48.2 - Herath to Bairstow, SIX, a controlled hit from Bairstow, steps down and gets to the pitch of the delivery, lofts it over the long-on fence

90.3 - Herath to Finn, out Stumped!! It was a typical tailender-response from Finn, charged down and heaved at this flighted delivery, perhaps took his eyes off the trajectory. Was no where near the pitch of the ball, the ball dipped in and soupcon of a turn took it away from his swishing blade. Chandimal was ready for it, dislodged the bails before Finn could get his bat back into the crease. So, the hosts finish 2 runs short of the psychological figure of 300. Finn st Chandimal b Herath 17(46) [4s-3]

89.3 - Chameera to Bairstow, out Caught by Pradeep!! A splendid innings from Bairstow comes to an end. Surely bailed England out of trouble with that knock. The length delivery on the stumps, Bairstow attempted a slog, mistimes it as it came off the toe-end of the bat and went high in the air towards long-on where Pradeep ran forward and nicely settles under it. Bairstow c Pradeep b Chameera 140(183) [4s-13 6s-1]

76.0 - Chameera to Broad, out Bowled!! One brings Two yet again! Broad throws his bat to this full delivery well wide outside off, ekes out an inside edge that shatters the off-stump. Broad b Chameera 2(4)

75.2 - Chameera to Moeen Ali, out Caught by Kusal Mendis!! No.7 down for England, Moeen Ali gets right forward and plants his foot across this in-swinging delivery on the stumps, the ball takes the inside edge onto the pad and straight to the man at FSL who takes an easy catch. Moeen Ali c Kusal Mendis b Chameera 0(8)

72.3 - Herath to Hales, out Caught by Chameera!! Those clouds were not threatening so I thought we were in for a different kind of 'Halestorm' today, especially after seeing how he had batted so far. But that was not the case to be, Hales decided that it was enough and took on the spinner. Charged down and tried to send Herath out of the park, the ball turned a bit, just a little to take the outer part of the toe of the bat and ballooned towards deep extra cover, where the fielder ran in a bit and dived in front to snaffle it inches off the ground. The partnership is broken. Hales was trying to bury his face in his bat as he walked back. He knew he missed out on a ton, which would have been a great start to the summer. Hales c Chameera b Herath 86(206) [4s-12]

32.0 - Pradeep to Stokes, out Caught by Mathews!! This is Pradeep's answer. He was not pleased with Stokes not caring two hoots about his gesture on the previous ball. Ran in hard and bowled a length delivery on the stumps, Stokes wanted to flick it away, perhaps was too early on the shot, the bat turned in his hand and he handed over a simple catch to the fielder at mid-on. Stokes c Mathews b Pradeep 12(9) [4s-3]

30.2 - Eranga to James Vince, out Caught by Kusal Mendis!! The debutant has to depart. Eranga has been rewarded for sticking to that fuller length. Once again invited Vince to drive off the front foot. He fell for the bait, went hard at it without much feet movement, got a thick edge which carried nicely to the fielder at third slip. Lankans had a sumptous lunch but they decided to have the sweet dish once out in the middle. This wicket is that sweet dish for them. James Vince c Kusal Mendis b Eranga 9(27) [4s-2]

22.2 - Dasun Shanaka to Root, out Caught by Kusal Mendis!! Dasun Shanaka is on a roll. Gets his third wicket and England's mainstay Root has to walk back to the pavilion. Again pitched up delivery and seams away off the deck, Root went with hard hands on the drive, gets a thick outside edge and flies to gully who takes a sharp catch Root c Kusal Mendis b Dasun Shanaka 0(7)

20.4 - Dasun Shanaka to Compton, out Caught by Thirimanne!! One brings Two, Compton is drawn forward to play at this. Dasun Shanaka gets it to angle in and straightens a touch making Compton poke at this. Thirimanne gets low and dives forward to take this just inches off the ground at first slip. Compton c Thirimanne b Dasun Shanaka 0(3)

20.1 - Dasun Shanaka to Cook, out Caught by Chandimal!! Cook doesn't get to his 10,000 Test runs today and this is the maiden Test wicket for the debutant, bowls this full and gets it across the left hander, Cook goes hard on the drive and nicks it to the keeper who takes an easy catch moving to his left. Cook c Chandimal b Dasun Shanaka 16(52) [4s-2]

59.4 - Pradeep to Bairstow, no run, in the airr and dropped. How costly a drop will it prove to be? Bairstow drives this fuller delivery uppishly to the left of the bowler, Pradeep gets both hands to it but can't hold on to it. In fact he tumbled after he shelled it

88.0 - Chameera to Finn, no run, Chameera spears a yorker from round the wicket, Finn fails to dig it out and is pinged on the boot. There was a loud appeal for LBW but umpire is not interested.

80.1 - Eranga to Bairstow, no run, starts with a gentle outswinger which shapes away outside the off stump, Bairstow watches it sail through to the keeper

80.0 - Chameera to Finn, no run, Chameera goes for the yorker, ends up as a low full toss, Finn keeps it out, that's Lunch on day 2

78.1 - Herath to Bairstow, leg byes, 1 run, full delivery sliding down leg, Bairstow fails to make connection and Herath goes for a loud appeal which was turned down by Aleem Dar

77.1 - Chameera to Bairstow, 2 runs, 2nd Hunderd for the local lad, full delivery outside off, Bairstow drives this hard to cover, the man at covers has a shy at the non-strikers end and gives away over throws, Bairstaw pumps his fist and raises his bat to the crowd

56.1 - Eranga to Bairstow, 2 runs, tad fuller and seams away outside the off stump, Bairstow gets a nice stride forward, squirts it off the outer part of the bat towards deep backward point. The partnership between the duo is 100 now.

48.3 - Herath to Bairstow, no run, tossed up delivery and Bairstow came forward to defend, missed the line and was rapped on the pad, Herath appealed for an lbw which was turned down by the umpire. Review part: Fair delivery, nothing on the bat. Pitched outside off, impact in line but wickets missing. 2nd heartbreak for the Lankans in two overs

47.5 - Mathews to Bairstow, no run, Mathews went wide of the crease and angled into Bairstow, who fell over on the flick, was rapped well below the knee-roll but the ball had a lot of distance to cover. Rod Tucker raised his finger almost instantly on the appeal but the review saved Bairstow there. Review part: Bairstow has taken the review after being adjudged lbw. Fair delivery. No inside edge, no bat as well. There is nothing on the RTS as well. Pitched outside off, impact in line but it's missing the stumps. So it will be overturned

31.4 - Broad to Thirimanne, FOUR, good length delivery outside off, Thirimanne drives it on the up towards the vacant cover region. Much needed runs for Sri Lanka

27.4 - Finn to Thirimanne, FOUR, short delivery on the stumps, Thirimanne rocks back and pulls it behind square and gets a boundary

23.2 - Finn to Thirimanne, FOUR, Finn goes fuller this time, Thirimanne is ready and makes full use of it, gets right forward and drills the drive straight down the ground and collects a boundary

22.3 - Stokes to Mathews, FOUR, Stokes is looking to aim at the stumps, Mathews gets slighlty across and clips it well to fine leg and into the fence

22.1 - Stokes to Mathews, FOUR, Mathews makes it so simple!! Full delivery on the stumps, Mathews gets forward and pushes it straight down the ground, the fielder at mid-on had no chance of chasing it

20.4 - Stokes to Mathews, FOUR, fuller length delivery outside off, Mathews opens the bat face and places it wide of the man at backward point and the ball races away to the fence

19.0 - Stokes to Thirimanne, FOUR, back to over the wicket, Stokes bowls this full on the pads and asking to be hit, Thirimanne clips it to the vacant mid-wicket region

17.5 - Finn to Thirimanne, FOUR, full length delivery well outside off, Thirimanne gets a big stride forward and drills the drive past the vacant cover region, no stopping that

16.0 - James Vince to Mathews, FOUR, Vince nearly had his revenge. What a wicket this would have been at the stroke of tea. There was a lot of extra bounce and Mathews had to fence it after getting on his toes, the ball took the handle of the bat and flew over third slip into the third man fence

15.1 - James Vince to Mathews, FOUR, Vince has been minced. He should have been, for this was a filthy ball. Short, wide and inviting Mathews to thrash it away through the point region

15.0 - Stokes to Chandimal, FOUR, if glorious could be defined by one cover drive, this is it. Chandimal leant into it, held his shape and let his arms take over on the drive, the ball rolled along the turf through cover, following its master's command

9.1 - Broad to Mathews, FOUR, short and wide, the kind of pill a dying innings needs. Mathews goes back and clatters the cut past point

8.4 - Anderson to Chandimal, FOUR, just when I wrote that Anderson is not letting him off the hook, Anderson bowls a half-volley on the stumps, Chandimal times the drive well, presented the full face of the bat to beat the chase from the man at mid-on

6.4 - Anderson to Chandimal, FOUR, for how long could he curb the instincts of a batter, was committed on the front foot. The length of the delivery helped as well, was full and Chandimal leaned into the square drive to send it to the fence with ease

2.1 - Anderson to Kaushal Silva, FOUR, this has been nicely played. Silva clips this one off his pads away from the fielder at mid-wicket, the ball races away to the fence

36.4 - Anderson to Eranga, out Caught by Bairstow!! Anderson has the fifer and England have asked Sri Lanka to follow-on. This was an angled delivery down the leg-side, Eranga wanted to clip it away. But the luck was not on his side. He got a faint tickle on it which carried to the keeper. The umpire did not think there was bat behind it but England use the review to see the decision getting overturned. Eranga c Bairstow b Anderson 1(6)

35.5 - Broad to Thirimanne, out Caught by Finn!! Finn has taken another one and once again he has used every inch of his tall frame. Despite that frame he had to dive forward to take this one. Thirimanne wanted to turn away this one with the angle, the bat turned his hand and he looped it towards shortish mid-on, Finn was a little deep and rushed in, saw that was not going to make it in time so dived and got his palms under it. Follow-on looms large, but I do not think England would impose it or will they? Sri Lanka still need 8. Thirimanne c Finn b Broad 22(67) [4s-5]

34.0 - Broad to Chameera, out Caught by Finn!! Finn has taken a blinder at short mid-off, Chameera drove on the up on this length delivery and did not keep it down, it went low towards Finn who had to dive a bit to his right. But he did well to pouch it safely in the end, was confident that he had caught it clean and started celebrating straightaway. The umpires, though, were not sure about it and went upstairs to have another look at it. Third umpire had a look at it through various angles and ruled it in favour of England. Chameera c Finn b Broad 2(8)

30.4 - Anderson to Herath, out Caught by Stokes!! This time gets bat but edges it, Herath was in no position to drive this length delivery outside off, he goes at it hard and gets a thick edge that flies to third slip. Stokes didn't move an inch, pouches an easy catch. Herath c Stokes b Anderson 1(11)

28.1 - Anderson to Dasun Shanaka, out Caught by Bairstow!! Peach to the Debutant!! Anderson bowls this full and gets it to swing away late, Shanaka pushes at it and gets a feather to the keeper who moves to his right and takes an easy catch. Anderson is now on a Hat-trick Dasun Shanaka c Bairstow b Anderson 0(1)

27.0 - Anderson to Mathews, out Lbw!! Anderson gets this to nip in sharply and Mathews is trapped right in front of the wicket, Mathews doesn't take the review as well. Half the Sri Lankan side is back in the hut. Anderson is now 6th on the list of leading wicket takers in Tests. Mathews lbw b Anderson 34(62) [4s-6]

16.1 - Stokes to Chandimal, out Caught by James Vince!! Straight away Stokes strikes for England, Sri Lanka are 4 down and in deep trouble. Good length delivery that comes in and straightens a touch, kicks off from the wicket and takes the shoulder of the bat, Chandimal was surprised with it, the ball goes to the right of third slip, Vince dives to his right and take a neat catch. Chandimal c James Vince b Stokes 15(38) [4s-3]

5.2 - Broad to Kusal Mendis, out Caught by Bairstow!! There is no breather for me in the comm box and for the Lankan batsmen out there in the middle. They are forming a beeline out there and giving the Englishmen enough reasons to flaunt a 'Broad smile'. This one is the kind of delivery which you expect to kiss the edge of a probing bat. Mendis got his front foot forward, not in the line of the delivery perhaps, a little too across and that was enough to induce the edge. The ball moved away just a little bit, enough to send him back. Three down are the islanders and soon we will start following the follow-on equation. Kusal Mendis c Bairstow b Broad 0(2)

4.4 - Anderson to Kaushal Silva, out Caught by Bairstow!! How far could Anderson be if Broad is already on the wickets chart? Peach of delivery from Anderson, angled this one and had the bounce behind it to make it even more potent. Silva was caught in two minds, the ball just kept coming at him. He wanted to leave but the ball kissed his edge even as he tried to withdraw the bat, carried at a nice height to the keeper, in front of his face in fact. SL are two down and things have just started looking a little gloomy. Kaushal Silva c Bairstow b Anderson 11(17) [4s-1]

4.0 - Broad to Karunaratne, out Caught by Bairstow!! As easy as they come. The angle has worked for Broad, came from round the wicket and got the ball to move away after pitching. The angle makes such deliveries tough to leave, there was no way Karunaratne could have played it otherwise. Perhaps he could have left that but poked at it instinctively and edged it towards the keeper. England strike early, 300 is not that bad a score here for sure. Why did I even use 300 and bad in a sentence. It is enough with Broad on fire. Karunaratne c Bairstow b Broad 0(12)

33.2 - Broad to Thirimanne, FOUR, a thick edge which flies over the slip cordon into the fence. Short, wide and Thirimanne is justified into going after it. But the bounce is so monstrous that it gets big on him

31.4 - Broad to Herath, FOUR, sliced away in the air between the slip cordon and gully! It's a very full ball on off and Herath is in danger of being late on it. His bat comes rushing down and he somehow squeezes it away

29.1 - Broad to Thirimanne, FOUR, good pacy short ball, Thirimanne is hurried into the pull and it glances off the splice into the fine leg boundary. The man patrolling the fence there is a little square

25.5 - Broad to Thirimanne, FOUR, cracked off the back foot! Thirimanne gets off the mark in style. Sniffs gold as the ball lands short and wide and cuts it brutally through the covers

22.1 - Anderson to Mathews, leg byes, FOUR, slants it into leg-stump, he's trying for the dream ball which pitches leg and hits the top of off but it goes on with the arm, takes a bit of thigh pad and races away to the fence

21.3 - Broad to Mathews, FOUR, a thick outside edge runs away to the third man fence. Mathews is guilty of pushing at a length ball swinging away from home, did well in the end to take the bottom hand off and it went all along the carpet

20.5 - Anderson to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, fifty for Mendis, and what a brilliant stroke to bring it up with. The line is a bit too straight and he whips it with a strong bottom hand between mid-on and mid-wicket. Those reprieves seem to have liberated him into playing his game

18.4 - Broad to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, Bairstow dropped Mendis a while ago and the look on his face was priceless as Mendis clipped this one uppishly through mid-wicket

16.1 - Broad to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, just a push and Mendis will get four for it. Half-volley just outside off, Mendis leans into the push and beats the fielder who chase it from wide mid-off

13.1 - Finn to Chandimal, FOUR, full and on the pads, Chandimal clips it to fine leg and gets to his first boundary of the innings

12.5 - Anderson to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, inswinger that comes in sharp and from back of a length, Mendis is surprised and gets it high on the bat, the ball takes the shoulder and flies over the 2nd slip, the fileder gets a finger but can't hold onto it

11.5 - Finn to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, half-volley by Finn, Mendis leans forward and drills the drive staright down the ground, confident stroke that by Mendis

11.2 - Finn to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, full delivery on the stumps, Mendis drives it down the ground and the ball races away the fence, Broad chases it and dives to get the ball back in, fails to do so

5.3 - Broad to Kaushal Silva, FOUR, Silva plays this late and drops his hands, more in control, the ball goes through the slips and gully and into the fence

4.5 - Anderson to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, inswinger this time and Mendis is ready for it, goes full hearted and lofts it well over the man at mid-on and into the fence

3.4 - Broad to Kusal Mendis, FOUR, back of a length delivery outside off, Mendis opens his bat face and pokes at it hard, finds the gap between slips and the gully, streaky boundary that

1.3 - Broad to Karunaratne, FOUR, short and wide asking to be hit, Karunaratne gets his back foot across and cuts it well in front of square on the off-side

35.3 - Anderson to Pradeep, out Bowled!! All over. My colleague Sagar is not even done with his dinner. I was filling in for him. And here he is enjoying his dinner as players shake hands and walk back. 10 wickets for Anderson, his best figures at this venue. Straight ball, nothing like the great ones he has been bowling in this match. Pradeep looked intimidated by it, backed away and was beaten by the pace of the delivery which crashed onto middle and leg. England win by an innings and 88 runs to go 1-0 in the series. Pradeep b Anderson 0(4)

34.4 - Finn to Thirimanne, out Caught by Root!! Some other day, in some other universe Thirimanne would have salvaged some pride, not tonight. Not against Finn, who gets the ball to straighten from round the wicket. What was Thirimanne even thinking? Forced his bat at it, trying to shovel it through covers, edges it and the ball settles into the palms of Root at second slip. Thirimanne c Root b Finn 16(30) [4s-3]

34.2 - Finn to Chameera, out Caught by Compton!! Guess who will be feeling guilty? It's Thirimanne, he got Chameera on strike with 5 deliveries to go in the over and Chameera cannot survive even one. Extra bounce from Finn does the trick. It came in a bit with the angle and hit the shoulder of Chameera's bat as he defended it with hard hands. The ball popped and carried to the fielder at short leg. Two more to go! Chameera c Compton b Finn 0(1)

33.0 - Finn to Herath, out Caught by Broad!! That previous ball softened him up and he's chipped this straight to short cover. Finn throws it up full outside off, and Herath is still tizzy from the blow. He is tempted into the drive and hits it meekly straight to Broad. Herath c Broad b Finn 4(18) [4s-1]

28.3 - Anderson to Dasun Shanaka, out Caught by Bairstow!! Anderson gets his fourth and you've got to say that there is a great sense of inevitability every time he has the ball in hand. Sooner or later, there will be a nick around, no matter how good you are. And Shanaka is no Kane Williamson. Angled into the corridor on a back of a length, darts away late and Shanaka's hands are following the ball with his feet stuck to the crease. Gets a feather. Dasun Shanaka c Bairstow b Anderson 4(16)

24.2 - Anderson to Kusal Mendis, out Bowled!! These little periods where you know that you just have to bat for a while and then tea/lunch will taken or even the weather might interfere are the toughest to negotiate. Mendis looks incredulous out there. It was a shortish delivery outside off, he was again indecisive, went to defend it. But was not behind the ball properly and almost chopped it off the face of the bat onto the stumps. What is happening there? Sri Lanka are back to what they did in the first innings - forming a beeline. Kusal Mendis b Anderson 53(68) [4s-8]

23.2 - Broad to Mathews, out Caught by Bairstow!! That's a big one! The highest scorer of the previous innings departs. It is the Lankan captain. He did not look at ease ever since he arrived. Not to forget he got a peach this time. And for someone who was there for just 12 deliveries before this one, it was too tough to tackle. Broad angled this one into Mathews and then managed to straighten it, Mathews poked at it with hard hands and that was enough for a good nick to carry to Bairstow, who could not have asked for a softer pie. Mathews c Bairstow b Broad 5(13) [4s-1]

19.4 - Moeen Ali to Chandimal, out Bowled!! Oh he's chopped it back on. Moeen Ali continues to flourish as an offie at home against sub-continent sides. Chandimal senses the shortish length and hops back to cut it through the off-side. The turn cramps him up and he gets a thick under-edge to deflect it back. Maybe the rain-break wavered his concentration or maybe the introduction of spin. Chandimal b Moeen Ali 8(17) [4s-1]

11.0 - Anderson to Kaushal Silva, out Caught by Bairstow!! Late swing for Anderson, gets this to swing from off stump and draws Silva to push at it, the ball takes the outside edge and carries to the right of Bairstow who dives in front of the 1st slip to take a good catch. This is the 7th catch for Bairstow in this match. Kaushal Silva c Bairstow b Anderson 14(36) [4s-1]

2.2 - Anderson to Karunaratne, out Caught by Bairstow!! It took just 8 deliveries for Anderson to get his 1st wicket of this innings. Swings this across the left hander late and gets Karunaratne to poke at it, gets it on the shoulder of the bat and an easy take for the keeper. Karunaratne c Bairstow b Anderson 7(9) [4s-1]
