Hello again! The players are out in the middle. This should be an interesting chase

When you are unharmed till the 10th over and with Hafeez churning out runs like furniture from an IKEA factory, 182 can look about 10 runs short. This Sharjah pitch is a "tawa". Flat and allows you to throw your bat at just about anything. Hafeez's wicket inhibited the pace untill Afridi, still there thanks to a controversial decision, and Sammy joined hands to make the ball bleed. The late order assault compensated, well almost, for the quiet overs in the middle, and took the hosts to a score that looks comforting but is far from invincible. Much like how your board exam preparation feels. Join us in a few minutes for the reply...

Sammy 18(10) Afridi 17(9) Tanvir 4-0-38-1

19.6 - Tanvir to Sammy, FOUR, luck with the brave and inside edges with Sammy. Low full toss swerving into a backed-away Sammy who throws his bat at it, ekes out an inside edge that runs behind without interruptions

19.5 - Tanvir to Afridi, 1 run, low full toss on off, Afridi made room and crashes it with a horizontal bat through point. Sammy on strike for this last ball..

19.4 - Tanvir to Afridi, SIX, here it is. Fuller length delivery, Afridi stoops a touch and launches this five-and-a-half ounce missile into an orbit straight down the ground

19.3 - Tanvir to Sammy, 1 run, short of length delivery, Sammy mistimes the pull in front of deep mid-wicket

19.2 - Tanvir to Sammy, SIX, reads this slower delivery like a hawk. Rocks back and clouted it over mid-wicket with a bat swing

19.1 - Tanvir to Sammy, no run, angled in on back of a length, Sammy has his boot soles glued, stands tall and swings only to miss the ball altogether

Afridi 10(7) Sammy 7(6) Amir 4-0-24-1

18.6 - Amir to Afridi, 2 runs, Amir wasn't happy with the throw from the sweeper. Signals to the stumps, indicating that the throw could have been closer. Another yorker length delivery, Afridi backed away and squeezed it out through cover. Amir finishes with 1/24

18.5 - Amir to Sammy, leg byes, 1 run, off-pace? Sammy was early into his swiveling hoick, the ball takes the pad and lobs to cover-point. Steals the single and fist-pumps Amir

18.4 - Amir to Sammy, no run, yorker slanted away outside off from over the wicket, Sammy threw his bat at it but found the ball zoot past the swing

18.3 - Amir to Sammy, no run, and now channels his inner Wasim to let out a yorker length delivery, Sammy slides away and just manages to keep it out

18.2 - Amir to Sammy, SIX, if Zalmi are the NASA, Sammy is their launcher. Length ball on off, Sammy backs away and tonks it over long-on. Not a chance. Into the crowd

18.1 - Amir to Sammy, no run, bends back and sees Sammy duck under this short ball

Over: 18 0 6 W 1 6 1 1 1 4 PSZ 155/4
Sammy 1(1) Afridi 8(6) Tanvir 3-0-20-1

17.6 - Tanvir to Sammy, 1 run, yorker just outside off. No room to get under it but enough room to open the blade a touch to jam it out in front of cover

17.5 - Tanvir to Afridi, 1 run, flicks this fuller length delivery to deep mid-wicket

Darren Sammy, right handed bat, comes to the crease

17.4 - Tanvir to Malan, out Caught by Imad Wasim!! Tanvir has his redemption but it's like getting a videogame instead of a playstation as your birthday gift. Gets Malan when he could have had Afridi. Anyway, the slower ball has worked. The list of the slow-ball deaths continue. Gets low, slog-sweeps and finds deep mid-wicket who ran across and cupped it inches inside the ropes. Malan c Imad Wasim b Tanvir 12(12) [4s-1]

Tanvir to Malan, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

17.3 - Tanvir to Afridi, 1 run, mistimes the heave to long-on for a single

17.2 - Tanvir to Malan, 1 run, gets forward and taps it to cover for a single

17.2 - Tanvir to Afridi, no ball, wait, what? Afridi was caught but then it's been given a no ball. In the mediocrity exam, Afridi's placement came a close second to Tanvir's high full toss. Shimmies down and throws his bat across the line. Bopara runs in and pouches it low in front of him at long-on but then mini-discussions including walkie-talkies finally led to the decision that the ball was found to be over the waist line. With Afridi half a metre outside his crease. Go, figure.

17.1 - Tanvir to Afridi, FOUR, full toss veering down, Afridi half-turns and wrists it to the fine leg fence

Sohail Tanvir [2.0-0-11-0] is back into the attack

Over: 17 0 1 6 PSZ 146/3
Afridi 2(2) Malan 11(10) Amir 3-0-16-1

16.6 - Amir to Afridi, 1 run, good over this. Hurls this very full to not allow Afridi to get under it. The batsman stoops and then crashes it to the sweeper. Much like a powered squeeze to get that single

16.5 - Amir to Malan, leg byes, 1 run, full toss that dips on Malan who had made room, hits him on the pad and rolls away to allow the single

16.4 - Amir to Afridi, 1 run, pressure cooker whistling and you open it to see the food taste all bland. Fullish on the pads, Afridi underwhelms, by his standards, with a clipped single to square leg

Shahid Afridi, right handed bat, comes to the crease

Roaring reception for Afridi!

16.3 - Amir to K Akmal, out Caught by James Vince!! That was the knee-blow. How can you not gobble up a low full toss in this form? Swung his arms and lofted it straight to extra cover where Vince flings himself to his left to palm that. Timed but no elevation there. K Akmal c James Vince b Amir 30(20) [4s-2 6s-2]

Amir to K Akmal, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

16.2 - Amir to K Akmal, no run, that has hurt Akmal! Straight on the back knee and he hops in his crease as he searches for the ball. Had misses the flick to a ball pitching outside leg to invite that LBW appeal. Sees the ball lie down dead in front of the stumps and then hops towards square leg to grimace

16.1 - Amir to Malan, 1 run, short of length delivery angled in, Malan swivels to pull it to deep mid-wicket

Mohammad Amir [2.0-0-13-0] is back into the attack

K Akmal 30(18) Malan 10(8) Imad Wasim 2-0-28-0

15.6 - Imad Wasim to K Akmal, FOUR, one bounce over the ropes! Gets on his knee and swings his arms to tonk this ball over Imad Wasim's head. Akmal is swinging just about fine. Did Hafeez share his lunch with him?

15.6 - Imad Wasim to K Akmal, wide, goes past the tramline as he tries to bowl it wide

15.5 - Imad Wasim to K Akmal, 2 runs, again sinks low and half-pulls/half-sweeps it through mid-wicket for a brace

15.4 - Imad Wasim to K Akmal, SIX, that's the shot that makes these balls bleed. Widens his stance to pounce on this shorter delivery and protracts hands to hammer it cross-batted over deep mid-wicket

15.3 - Imad Wasim to Malan, 1 run, turns this ball round the corner for a single

15.2 - Imad Wasim to K Akmal, 1 run, even though the pitch might suggest otherwise, this is not Roland Garros. Lets out a flat-batted forehand shot and mistimes it to long-off

15.1 - Imad Wasim to Malan, 1 run, fires it in on off, Malan gets behind the line and lonts it to long-off for a single

Imad Wasim [1.0-0-12-0] is back into the attack

14.6 - Bopara to Malan, 1 run, off-pacer that holds in the pitch, Malan's drive is unintentionally lofted and gets him a single to long-off

14.5 - Bopara to Malan, FOUR, another back of a length slower delivery with width, Akmal stoops a touch and late-cuts it wide of backward point

14.4 - Bopara to K Akmal, 1 run, Bopara is the pace blackhole. Sucks it all out of the ball. With width this time and it's steered straight to backward point

14.3 - Bopara to Malan, 1 run, stays put and just protracts his arms to push-drive the ball to deep extra cover

14.2 - Bopara to K Akmal, leg byes, 1 run, misses out on this sweep and this delivery veering in takes the pad to run to fine leg

14.1 - Bopara to Malan, 1 run, waits deep and with his bat lifted high, and punches this short of length delivery through extra cover

Strategic time-out! A much needed breather. For me, and for Usama Mir who has underwhelmed with 4-0-32-0.

13.6 - Usama Mir to K Akmal, no run, beaten! That's the way. Lets out a ripping legbreak outside off to beat Akmal's attempted steer to third man

13.5 - Usama Mir to K Akmal, SIX, Usama Mir could be seen grimacing. He is hurt. Not physically. This ball is on the roof after traveling over his head. Sees Akmal shimmy down and sees him assassinate the ball straight down the ground

13.4 - Usama Mir to K Akmal, no run, hint of width outside off, Akmal chops the ball to backward point

13.3 - Usama Mir to Malan, 1 run, flighted delivery, Malan lofts it over cover, half-deliberately, for a single to the sweeper

13.2 - Usama Mir to K Akmal, 1 run, drifting down, Akmal flicks his wrists to get this ball to mid-wicket

12.5 - Bopara to K Akmal, 1 run, goes full and wide outside off, slower delivery as usual and it's clipped to deep mid-wicket

Dawid Malan, left handed bat, comes to the crease

12.4 - Bopara to Tamim, out Caught by Simmons!! He goes now. A 35-ball 38 that played the foil to Hafeez stunner. Came down the pitch and lofted this ball while straightening his elbows, didn't get the distance and Simmons ran across from long-off and pouched it with both hands. Tamim c Simmons b Bopara 37(35) [4s-3]

Bopara to Tamim, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

12.3 - Bopara to K Akmal, 1 run, was turning around with straightened knees to pull this ball which wasn't short enough, stifled appeal as Kamran managed to drag it off the inside half to mid-wicket

12.2 - Bopara to K Akmal, no run, slower delivery angled in, Akmal waits for the ball and then bunts it hard into the pitch

12.1 - Bopara to Tamim, 1 run, takes a baby stride forward and eases this gentle delivery gently to long-off

11.4 - Usama Mir to Tamim, 2 runs, throws his hands at the ball in the middle to go to his shimmy dance and ends up slicing the ball that bounces to the left of an incoming sweeper cover

11.3 - Usama Mir to Tamim, 2 runs, flatter delivery and Tamim was on his knee to slog-sweep this. Didn't get the desired power behind and Bopara slides at deep mid-wicket to save a couple

11.2 - Usama Mir to K Akmal, 1 run, flicked away to short fine leg for a single. Easy peasy

11.1 - Usama Mir to Tamim, 1 run, half-an-appeal as Tamim went low to sweep, tickles this leg-stumpish delivery to short fine leg. A honking truck on my TV set signals 100 runs for the team

10.6 - Bopara to K Akmal, 2 runs, off-pace, Akmal waits to welcome the ball with a clip off his pads, steals a single to mid-wicket using long strides and better communication

10.5 - Bopara to K Akmal, FOUR, spanked! Short and wide, Akmal hops and thrashes the upper-cut over a leaping backward point

10.4 - Bopara to K Akmal, no run, slides deep and punches this short of length delivery straight to one of the off-ring guarders

Kamran Akmal, right handed bat, comes to the crease

10.3 - Bopara to Hafeez, out Lbw!! Okay, that "hole shot" had made Hafeez so confident that he goes for this ambitious sweep. Stood there and wasn't low to sweep. The slower delivery arrowed in and hit his back leg. HawkEye shows that it was missing leg. Only a wrong decision looked like sending this man back. Clap-clap for that innings. Hafeez lbw b Bopara 59(35) [4s-7 6s-3]

Bopara to Hafeez, THAT'S OUT!! Lbw!!

New ball now being chosen. Ah, these T20 does provide its fair share of comedy. Expect someone to climb up under the dark Sharjah sky and pick it out

10.2 - Bopara to Hafeez, SIX, that's a pie. Slower ball gone as wrong as your teenage years. Full toss. Swings his arms and swung the ball over deep mid-wicket. And shot was so bludgeoning that the ball finds a hole in the roof's vertical extension and sits there. Defying gravity and mocking that ball. "Holed", if I can coin a new term for this shot

10.1 - Bopara to Tamim, 1 run, clearly doesn't rate Bopara's dibbly-dobblies high, comes down the track and goes full-blooded with this throw-the-bat shot, straight to sweeper in the deep

So, Ravi Bopara - Not in the England squad for the World T20 next month - Sent a strong message to the selectors. He might be old by T20 standards, but he just proved a point that he's not yet finished. On that note, let's bring curtains on this game. Why? Because there is one more PSL game waiting for you - Islamabad United vs Quetta Gladiators. That's due to start in 30 minutes from now. Hope to see you there!!

Afridi: Doesn't matter who wins or loses but these are the sort of matches that we should get. Will entertain the crowd and hopefully make PSL a great success. The start was exceptional and the game then came to an interesting point where we had to hold our nerve. I was not confident about Sammy bowling the 20th over, but it worked today. Sammy himself was very confident. I'm glad to have got a win.

Malik: The way Bopara batted was exceptional and I have no words to describe that knock. We need a third pacer in our team and I think that's where we lacked a bit. We'll probably bring that extra pacer in the next game.

Hafeez: We played according to a plan and I got good support from Tamim as well. We are working as a team, playing as a team and winning as a team. Great to be part of this tournament.

Mohammad Hafeez is the Man of the Match for his 35-ball 59

This will certainly go down as one of the most exciting and nerve-racking games in the PSL history. At one stage, Karachi Kings were sinking at 48/5 inside 9 overs. James Vince and Ravi Bopara combined well and stitched a 61-run stand before the former got out in the 15th over. Bopara though continued his onslaught and massacred a 33-ball 67 which helped his team nearlllllly fetch an improbable task. With 13 needed from the final over, Sammy consumed Bopara and some mindless swinging from the tailenders meant Karachi Kings fell short by 3 runs. But how crucial was that wicket from Wahab Riaz to knock out a threatening Tanvir? Well! I'll leave that debate to you...

19.6 - Sammy to Amir, no run, Peshawar Zalmi win by 3 runs. Spare a thought for Ravi Bopara! He laid the foundation, did what all was needed to construct a building and then a subtle cyclone called Sammy comes in and spoils the party (blew it away). The emotions have gone wild - In both camps. Sammy goes on a celebratory run and his colleagues rally around to mob him. What a game! Coming to the final delivery: Sammy bowls an off-cutter outside off, kept it in the corridor of uncertainty and beats the booming blade of Mohammad Amir. Game over...

19.5 - Sammy to Saifullah Bangash, out Usama Mir Run Out!! Crikey! This T20 cricket can give you heart-attacks. What a game and look at those tensed faces in the dug-out. Coming to the dismissal: It was a length delivery outside off, might be the slower one. 18.6 - Riaz to Tanvir, out Bowled!! He's knocked 'em over. Just a glare and then turns his back. It was so pacy, the ball actually hit the base of leg-stump and crashed into the fine leg fence. Yes it was really, really pacy stuff. Full and aiming the base of leg-stump - Too good for Tanvir who fails to lay bat on ball. Looks to smack that through the leg-side but was beaten neck and crop - for pace. Tanvir b Riaz 23(17) [4s-2 6s-2]

Bopara 59(30) Tanvir 15(11) Tait 4-0-45-1

17.6 - Tait to Bopara, FOUR, make that 26 off the over. Tait had a nightmare with the ball. By the way, the edges are flying today - Only to find the boundary ropes, on a length and around leg-stump, Bopara makes room and throws the kitchen sink at it - Only a trailin plug of it making contact, inside edge past leg-stump and keeper, finds the fine leg fence

17.5 - Tait to Bopara, FOUR, that's the way to do it against fast bowlers. Just use the pace and massage it through the gap. Bopara has just executed that trick to perfection. Full and wide, Bopara sinks low and opens the bat face to steer it past backward point

17.4 - Tait to Bopara, 2 runs, full and outside off, Bopara looks to drive hard, gets it off the inside half towards mid-wicket, brings up Bopara's fifty

17.4 - Tait to Bopara, no ball, FOUR, Tait has overstepped! Free-hit time again... Full delivery angling down leg, Bopara flicks and inside edge flies between his legs, beats the fielder at backward square

17.1 - Tait to Tanvir, FOUR, that's what Tait's pace can do. It can get you wickets and also leak runs. Oh! You really have to feel for the bowlers. This was banged in short and got big on Tanvir who was trying to hook, a thick top-edge and it flies over the keeper, raced away in a hurry
