Nehra to open the bowling, one slip in place..

Earlier today, Indian women created history by beating Australia in a bilateral series for the first time in their home. Can the men match their feat? For that to happen, they need to restrict the hosts to 183 or less.

Talking about Australia, Shane Watson was the pick of the bowlers, giving runs at less than six runs per over. MS Dhoni preferred himself over Raina and Yuvraj and the move did not work that well as he made a 9-ball 14. With wickets in hand and a great start, India would have wanted at least 10 more runs than what they eventually got. However, Australia still have got a mountain to scale and against an in-form Indian spin attack, the task won't be easy. The hosts' reply in a while from now...

Having been put into bat, India started cautiously but soon hit the top gear with both the openers making use of the short straight boundaries. Faulkner's slower balls were read by both Rohit and Dhawan. The pair spoiled Nathan Lyon's debut as well, hitting him for 15 runs in his first ever T20I game. After Dhawan's departure, Kohli started from where he had left in the previous match, bringing his second fifty of the series and 11th overall in T20Is. A poor call eventually saw Rohit depart but by then he had made sure that once again India were going to have a good total on the board.

Over: 20 4 2 1 W 2 1 IND 184/3
Kohli 59(33) Raina 0(0) Andrew Tye 4-0-28-1

19.6 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, 1 run, full and cramping Kohli for room once again, mistimed lofted drive lands near mid-on and this time they are not coming back for the second. I thought they could have tried the second, for this was the last ball of the innings

19.5 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, 2 runs, Tye follows Kohli as he makes room, dug out to mid-on, Raina returns for the second and Tye fails to collect the throw. Raina was not even in the picture. He would have been out by a mile

Suresh Raina, left handed bat, comes to the crease

19.4 - Andrew Tye to Dhoni, out Caught by Watson!! Maiden T20I wicket for Andrew Tye and what a scalp! Full and wide outside off stump, Dhoni moved across the stumps and tried to loft it straight, but it went off the outside half of the bat and went straight to long-off, who took an easy catch. Dhoni c Watson b Andrew Tye 14(9) [4s-2]

Andrew Tye to Dhoni, THAT'S OUT!! Caught!!

Three men inside the ring behind square on the off-side

19.3 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, 1 run, very full from Tye, Kohli drives it to long-off

19.2 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, 2 runs, a high full toss, just below waist height, Kohli mistimes the drive to long-off, but Dhoni is quick enough to steal the second run

19.1 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, FOUR, driven crisply and driven for four. Back-to-back T20I fifties for Kohli and it's his 11th in this format of the game. Full delivery outside off stump, Kohli steps out and drives through cover, beating the man in the deep. Kohli gets a great applause from the crowd and he raises his bat to acknowledge all of them

Andrew Tye [3.0-0-18-0] is back into the attack

Actually a good over from Faulkner, just 8 off it. Remember, his first two went for 27.

Over: 19 0 4 1 1 1 1 IND 174/2
Kohli 49(28) Dhoni 14(8) Faulkner 3-0-35-0

18.6 - Faulkner to Kohli, 1 run, the slower ball bumper from Faulkner, Kohli had to really wait for it to come and he could only mistime the hook through backward square leg

Finch and Faulkner have a chat. The field is being changed

18.5 - Faulkner to Dhoni, 1 run, back-of-the-hand slower delivery outside off stump, Dhoni under-edges the cut to short third man

18.4 - Faulkner to Kohli, 1 run, in the air, but it doesn't carry. Full delivery outside off stump, Kohli square-drives over point, oh he slips while trying to complete the first run and Faulkner helped him get up. That's good to see! Kohli then gives him a pat on the back

Aah! Here's Kohli v Faulkner again.

18.3 - Faulkner to Dhoni, 1 run, once again Faulkner bowls a juicy full ball, Dhoni slogs hard, but there is protection at deep mid-wicket

18.2 - Faulkner to Dhoni, FOUR, careful James Faulkner, careful! That was hit like a bullet. Thankfully it was just over Faulkner's left shoulder. Would have been really nasty had it come straight at him. Full and in the slot, can't bowl there at this stage of the innings, Dhoni muscles the drive back over the bowler for four

18.1 - Faulkner to Dhoni, no run, oh Dhoni has just let that go thinking that would be called a wide, but it was well inside the line. Faulkner bowls a length ball from round the wicket

James Faulkner [2.0-0-27-0] is back into the attack

Over: 18 2 2 4 1 4 1 IND 166/2
Dhoni 8(4) Kohli 47(26) Boland 4-0-30-0

17.6 - Boland to Dhoni, 1 run, Dhoni goes deep inside the crease and tries to muscle it back over the bowler's head, but toe-ends the drive along the ground to long-off

17.5 - Boland to Dhoni, FOUR, a crunching sound as the ball made contact with the bat. The placement is great from the Indian skipper and splits the fielders in the deep. Friendly full toss on the stumps, Dhoni swings across the line and muscles it through backward square leg

17.4 - Boland to Kohli, 1 run, slower ball short of length and on the leg stump, Kohli works it to backward square leg

17.3 - Boland to Kohli, FOUR, easily done! He's just a hit away from a fifty now. Full delivery outside off stump, Kohli steps out and slices the drive over backward point, the ball runs away for four

17.2 - Boland to Kohli, 2 runs, now that's cruel for a bowler, he's actually bowled a good ball, but they've stolen the second run. Very full delivery from Boland, a mistimed flick to mid-wicket, the big boundaries at the MCG meant Maxwell had a bit of distance to cover and MS Dhoni was too quick on the second run

17.1 - Boland to Kohli, 2 runs, Boland goes for the slower ball, Kohli swings really hard as he tries to slog, gets a thickish inside edge, Maxwell fumbles at deep mid-wicket and they easily return for the second

Scott Boland [3.0-0-16-0] is back into the attack

152 on the board. 3 overs to go. Can India get to 185-190?

Over: 17 0 1 2 1 4 1 IND 152/2
Kohli 38(22) Dhoni 3(2) Andrew Tye 3-0-18-0

16.6 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, 1 run, easily driven along the ground to long-on and he'll keep the strike

16.5 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, FOUR, well placed! Tye goes full and outside off stump, Kohli reaches out and squeezes the drive past backward point, no chance for the fielder to stop that and it rocketed to the fence

16.4 - Andrew Tye to Dhoni, 1 run, slower delivery very full and outside off stump, Dhoni drives it along the ground through point

16.3 - Andrew Tye to Dhoni, 2 runs, the upper cut from Dhoni, falls short of Hastings at third man, he gets his body behind the ball to prevent the boundary. Dhoni thinks about the third run and then says no

16.2 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, 1 run, another low full toss on the stumps, Kohli flicks it wide of long-on, could have been two, but they decide against it. Probably the run-out was playing on their minds

16.1 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, no run, short of length delivery just outside off stump, Kohli defends off the back foot

Andrew Tye [2.0-0-9-0] is back into the attack

Kohli 32(18) Rohit 60(47) Watson 3-0-17-0

15.6 - Watson to Kohli, out Rohit Run Out!! 1 run completed. These two are involved in another run-out. I thought the second run was on. Kohli simply turned his back there! Need a replay to confirm if it was an easy second run. Full delivery on the stumps, Kohli flicks it nicely along the ground through mid-wicket, Maxwell rushes to his right from deep mid-wicket and fires the throw to the keeper's end. Oh yes, the second was surely on, unless he slipped while turning. Rohit was charing to the other end and was left stranded in the middle. Wade ran forward, collected the throw and whipped the bails off. Rohit run out (Maxwell/Wade) 60(47) [4s-5 6s-2]

Watson to Kohli, THAT'S OUT!! Run Out!!

15.5 - Watson to Rohit, 1 run, Rohit shapes up for a massive hit, but mistimes it completely, luckily for him there was no one at mid-on. Would have been a simple catch. Rohit cleared his front leg out of the way and played the slog, but ended up slicing it as it was the slower ball

15.4 - Watson to Kohli, 1 run, short delivery from Watson, Kohli pulls it along the ground to deep mid-wicket

15.3 - Watson to Rohit, 1 run, Watson goes for another yorker, this one not quite a yorker, but good enough to prevent Rohit from getting under it and launching it in the air, driven to long-off

15.2 - Watson to Kohli, 1 run, good comeback from Watto, bowls a perfect outside off stump, Kohli digs it out, Rohit calls for a quick single and makes it easily

15.1 - Watson to Kohli, FOUR, in the air, in the gap and four. Full delivery outside off stump, Kohli steps out and lofts the drive inside-out over cover, the fielder at long-off ran to his left and put in the dive, but the ball escaped to the fence

Shane Watson [2.0-0-8-0] is back into the attack

14.4 - Boland to Kohli, SIX, Kohli isn't holding back. Picked the length early, made room and smashed it over the long-off fence

14.3 - Boland to Kohli, 2 runs, 134ks, fuller and following Kohli who was advancing down the track, Kohli adjusts and drills it through mid-wicket

14.2 - Boland to Rohit, 1 run, back of a length wide of off, steered away towards third man

14.1 - Boland to Rohit, 2 runs, in the air and safe! Rohit looks to loft this flighted delivery straight down the ground, skews it off the thick outside half and it lands well wide of extra cover

Scott Boland [2.0-0-4-0] is back into the attack

Over: 14 1 0 4 4 0 4 IND 122/1
Kohli 16(10) Rohit 55(43) Hastings 3-0-35-0

13.6 - Hastings to Kohli, FOUR, make that 13 off the over. Kohli waltzes down and wallops this full ball over extra cover, no protection in the deep and Kohli is off to a blazing start

13.5 - Hastings to Kohli, no run, slightly short and on the stumps, Kohli crouches low looking to ramp it over the keeper, the ball zips off the surface and bounces over Kohli

13.4 - Hastings to Kohli, FOUR, slower fullish length delivery and in the swinging zone for Kohli. Makes room and goes for an inside-out drive over cover, middled it and raced away in no time

13.3 - Hastings to Kohli, FOUR, ample width on offer and Kohli ain't missing out on that. Backs away a tad and carves it over backward point, couple of bounces and into the fence

13.2 - Hastings to Kohli, no run, the extra bounce undid Kohli there. He was trying to flay it over cover but the short ball bounces extra and beats his outside edge

13.1 - Hastings to Rohit, 1 run, short and outside off, Rohit makes room and taps on its head, angled it down to third man

12.5 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, 1 run, pitched up outside off, driven through extra cover

12.4 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, 2 runs, uneven bounce again! This short delivery didn't rise as much as Kohli expected. He was trying to ramp it wide of Wade but couldn't get the desired connection, gets hit on the glove and it races away towards third man

12.3 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, no run, sat up on a length, Kohli goes hard on the drive and ends up mistiming it towards mid-off

12.2 - Andrew Tye to Kohli, no run, fullish just outside off, Kohli drives and picks out mid-off

12.1 - Andrew Tye to Rohit, leg byes, 1 run, big shout from the bowler but no support frm his colleagues! Off-cutter around off, Rohit looks to push towards cover and misses. He might have been a smidgen outside the line of off and hence the umpire wasn't interested, the ball rolled away towards third man

Andrew Tye [1.0-0-5-0] is back into the attack

11.4 - Watson to Kohli, 1 run, full and on the stumps, Kohli wristily clips through mid-wicket and is off the mark with a single

11.3 - Watson to Rohit, 1 run, tad too straight, flicked off his pads through mid-wicket

11.2 - Watson to Rohit, FOUR, fifty for Rohit! Waits inside the crease and steers this fullish delivery to the third man fence, all class and elegance there

11.1 - Watson to Rohit, no run, ambitious appeal for lbw! But nothing from the umpire, back of a length angled in on middle. Rohit fails to lay bat on the flick and the ball strikes him high on the pad. Height was the issue and might have gone down leg too

So that's it from us then. Hope you enjoyed the coverage. Join us back for the final game on Sunday. Goodbye!

HOWZSTAT: - Dhoni now holds the record for most number of stumpings in International cricket. Went past Kumar Sangakkara's 139.

- Australia have never chased anything beyond 160 since the 2010 World T20.

- Kohli becomes the only player to average above 50 in T20Is (considering a minimum of 500 runs).

- Earlier, India women clinched the first ever series win (across all formats) in Australia.

- This is the third series win for India in Australia and Dhoni registered a proud record of being the first Indian skipper to claim 2 series wins in Australia.

Dhoni: "It's fun (playing in front of a big crowd). Thanks for all the support. That was a fantastic catch (Jadeja's stunning grab that got rid of Watson). That was a crucial point of the game. They got off to a good start and it was important for us to take wickets. The spinners did the job and Hardik's first over was very crucial. We have been looking for someone who can give us good death overs and Bumrah has done well so far. He can consistently bowl yorkers. The good thing is that the more he plays, the better he will get."

Watson: "We got a really good start, but unfortunately we lost wickets in the middle and made it hard for ourselves. Aaron hurt his right hamstring. He's being assessed right now, hopefully it is not too serious. He has been hitting the ball really well. Sunday is very important for us. We are testing out a few players at the moment. The conditions are very different out there for the World T20 in India."

Finch injured his hamstring while taking a risky run and is not available for the presentation. Watson will substitute him for a chat.

Kohli: "I love coming to Australia and bat on these wickets. We get a lot of Indian support as well. Sealing the series here at the MCG feels special. I am very happy that I contributed to the team at an important time. Rohit has been timing the ball well. Shikhar took a bit of time in the ODI series, but he has been batting well as well. I rely on timing to hit sixes than going really hard at it."

Kohli is the Man of the Match

It appeared as if someone photocopied the script of the previous match and pasted it at the MCG. Such a brilliant start from the Aussies was foiled in the middle overs. However, the Indians did not field well today and dropped a few catches. The most glaring drop was from Shikhar Dhawan when he let a dolly slip out of his hands. Finch was the lucky man and Ashwin the unfortunate bowler. But the spinners (Jadeja, Ashwin and Yuvraj) were once again brilliant and did well to hide the fielding mistakes. Captain Dhoni would be mighty pleased with the efforts of Yuvraj as well, who returned figures of 2-0-7-1. Just before the World T20, India have started to shape up well. Australia, on the other hand, would regret the fact that they made as many as six changes and failed to find a plan against the spinners. It is not often that we see a T20I series turn inconsequential with a match to go, Dhoni's men have done well to achieve the feat.

On a day when Indian women excelled in Melbourne, the men put up a brilliant effort to compliment the eves. It all started in the 10th over, Australia were already halfway through the mark. But then they lost Marsh to a mistimed loft, Pandya just managed to hold onto the catch. The score was 94! In a span of 11 balls and 7 runs, they lost two more. It was just the kind of inroad, India were looking for. The spinners sneaked in a few quick overs and the required run-rate started climbing up. The pressure had just started to build and Australia's hopes sank further as Aaron Finch was run-out.

The players exchange handshakes as they walk off the field. As always, Dhoni collects a stump as he makes his way back to the dressing room. He wears a smile on his face as he chats with Yuvraj.

16.6 - Ravindra Jadeja to Faulkner, out Stumped!! This is a freak dismissal for Faulkner. Initially I thought he was bowled, but India got lucky as the ball ricocheted off Dhoni's left pad to disturb the stumps. This was fullish and just outside off stump, Faulkner swung hard at it and much like the previous ball got a thick inside edge, it missed the stumps and was too low for Dhoni to collect, the ball came off his pad and disturbed the sticks. By then, Faulkner's back foot was outside the crease and it was curtains for him. Faulkner st Dhoni b Ravindra Jadeja 10(7) [6s-1]
