One can comfortably say, the wickets were more of a gift rather than the bowlers claiming it. Lest we forget that the Aussie pacers were right on top more often than not. Now it's up to the swinging blade of David Warner and solid Joe Burns, who will be out in the middle in a few moments from now...

Craig played two lovely strokes before perishing to a beauty from Lyon. Even though Watling did well to hold one end up in the post-tea session, the job is far from over as New Zealand are currenly facing a risk of getting bowled out below 200. For the Aussies, they'll want to take these final three wickets in a hurry. Their only worry will be the ankle injury to Mitchell Starc, who had to go off the field to receive treatment. When we come back in half an hour's time, we will witness the floodlights taking full control for the first time in a Test match. Something that we all have been looking forward to. Hello again! Welcome back for the post-tea proceedings. Latham recorded his first ever fifty in Australia while Williamson had a rare failure with the bat. This is gonna be a testing session for Ross and Tom, test of character, intent and also test of pink ball under the twilight. Meanwhile, the crowd grew in numbers and a video tribute to mark Phil Hughes death anniversary was displayed during the break. All set for the ball-rolling action, Siddle with two slips in place...

While all this was happening, Latham has motored along nicely to his first half-century of the series. He'll be looking to soldier on in the same fashion in the post-tea session. The Aussies, on the other hand, will be looking for wickets when they come out. Another interesting session awaits us in around 10 minutes time. Stay tuned.

So, the first session in first-ever day-night Test is done and dusted now. The excitement is settling down and it is so good to see such a big crowd at the Adelaide Oval. It has been a mixed session for both the teams. Guptill once again failed at the beginning of the innings and it was the pair of Latham and Williamson that made sure that the Kiwis don't lose any more wickets in the first hour. The Black Caps would have been the happier side had Williamson stayed unbeaten, but a good second spell from Starc saw him snaffle his crucial wicket with another toe-crunching inswinging yorker.

He then hit a few lovely blows to take Australia past the New Zealand total. The match still hangs in the balance even after 1.5 days of cricket. So, the final two wickets yielded 108 runs for the Australians. From 116/8 to 224/10, Australia have managed to take a 22-run lead in this first day-night Test. New Zealand would also feel that they were at the receiving end of an umpiring error by the third umpire, who failed to give Lyon out on review even though HotSpot showed that there was a clear ball mark on the blade, since the Kiwis were appealing for a catching decision.

Mitchell Starc who limped off the Adelaide Oval after suffering a sore ankle yesterday will not bowl again for the remainder of the Test match. Scans revealed an early stage stress fracture to the third metatarsal of the slingy left-arm pacer's right foot. Coming back to cricket: Pink ball, 47441 fans, great telly viewing, 256 runs, 12 wickets and some excellent swing bowling. The inaugural day of day-night Test cricket got off to the best possible starts and not a single viewer went back disappointed.

There were different opinions among the cricket purists before the start of this revolutionary pink-ball day-night Test match. However, after what was on display today - one can affirm with a confident tone that the first day of the first-ever day-night Test match was a huge success. As Mark Nicholas on air asserted "47,441 people can say - I was there." Yes! The crowd relished every bit of day's play and they can proudly go back home and say: "We've witnessed a fascinating battle between bat and ball." Unlike a few odd predictions, the ball did swing and, IMO there wasn't any disadvantage of batting under natural light or twilight. At the end of it all - cricket was the winner and the concept of day-night Test cricket showed glimpses of great success. Talking about the on-field action, Australia came out and for the first time, David Warner looked clueless against the new ball. Both Boult and Southee got the ball to move, with the former finally getting his wicket with the latter taking the catch. Smith came out and showed great application, but Burns dragged one onto the stumps off Bracewell. Eventually, the pair of Smith and Voges made sure that the Aussies don't lose any more wickets going into day 2. Australia have 8 wickets in hand and they trail by 148 runs. Tomorrow we'll see another great contest between bat and ball.

Stumps, day 1: Finally, we witnessed the first-ever day of the first-ever day-night Test in the history of the game. What a day it has been! The match is nicely balanced at the end of day one. The 47000-odd crowd definitely had a great time. In fact, the attendance today is the highest for the first day of a Test match at the Adelaide Oval. That's why we believe that day-night Tests might just be the solution for reinvigorating public's interest in the most traditional form of the game.

Armed with the lead and having the advantage of bowling during the twilight hours, the Australian bowlers pushed on and reduced the visitors to 116/5 at stumps, a lead of just 94 runs. All the New Zealand batsmen got starts, but Ross Taylor's 32 was the highest score, leaving the visitors well behind in the game. Will the later order show some stomach for a fight as they seek to square the series? The first session of play might well determine the winners of this Test.

13:30 Local Time, 03:00 GMT, 08:30 IST: It is day three of the first ever Day Night Test in the history of the game and it might well turn out to be the last day as well. New Zealand had Australia at the ropes at one stage, the score was 118/8 when Nathan Lyon was given NOT OUT in controversial circumstances. The apparent injustice seemed to have taken belief out of Brendon McCullum and his men. Lyon prospered and went on to make 34, Mitchell Starc came out to bat at eleven, and plundered 20 runs off one Mark Craig over, Peter Nevill crafted his way to a career-best 66 and a heavy deficit was turned into a slender but significant 22-run first innings lead. While it wasn't a massive advantage, the momentum had shifted firmly in the favour of the hosts.

Amidst all the enthralling action that happened today, one thing that will get everyone buzzing will be the controversial DRS verdict of Nathan Lyon. "I don't believe what I just saw" exclaimed Ian Chappell after Lyon's DRS absurdity. Some un-cricketing fuss will paint the newspapers tomorrow I suspect. Let's hope it will be cricket which gets us talking on what might be a jam-packed Sunday afternoon at the city of churches. Geoff Marsh, all suited and booted, was present at the picturesque Adelaide Oval with a sense of optimism that one of his lads would make it big. However, he was left disappointed as both his lads could only manage a combined score of 6. Mitch Marsh, though, succeeded to bring that lost cheeky grin back as he nipped out two of the key Kiwi batsmen (Williamson and Baz). From that moment, New Zealand shoulders dropped and momentum shifted to the opposition camp. After taking a better-than-what-it-looked 24-run lead, Aussies charged at the visitors in the third session. The pink ball swung miles under lights and only piled up the misery for New Zealand. The top order looked at sea, especially against Josh Hazlewood, paving the way for the hosts. And during the fag end of the day, even the double centurion from the previous game - Ross Taylor - departed, clearing whatever little impediments were left there.

Some gritty batting by the tail coupled with one bad decision showed Australia the light when things had started to look gloomy for them. New Zealand were having a stupendous first session before Peter Nevill and Nathan Lyon frustrated them with a 74-run partnership for the 9th wicket. As if that was not enough, Mitchell Starc looked fear in the face and hit 20 runs off a Michael Craig over after deciding to bat despite having a stress fracture in his right leg. The bad decision we are talking about involved Lyon who looked to have edged a sweep off Mitchell Santner to Williamson at second slip. However, the umpire did not look convinced. New Zealand reviewed but third umpire upheld the decision citing lack of conclusive evidence. HotSpot, though, did have a little white dot sparking off a controversy.

Dinner, day 2: New Zealand survived the little period before the break. There were a couple of edges which flew past the fielders. Few lbw decisions were turned down and Kiwis were just lucky enough to not lose a wicket. Siddle needs to get his line right, he bowled waywardly and sprayed it all around, allowing both the batsmen to settle in. Hazlewood was relatively better and will be itching to come back after the break to have a go once again. Australia though will defintely be missing the services of Starc.
